Republicans may return DeLay's PAC funds

WASHINGTON — At least two Republicans in the House of Representatives say they will return money to Rep. Tom DeLay's political action committee now that the former majority leader has been indicted for allegedly conspiring to violate Texas campaign fundraising laws.

Reps. Jeb Bradley of New Hampshire and Heather Wilson of New Mexico said they would return contributions from Americans for a Republican Majority, the political action committee DeLay started to help elect GOP candidates to Congress. Known as ARMPAC, it is separate from Texans for a Republican Majority, or TRMPAC, which is at the center of the charge against DeLay.

...

Bradley, in his second term, was the first to renounce DeLay's money. He said he's returning $15,000 contributed in 2002 and 2004 to "remove any questions that may arise about contributions."

...

Most other House Republicans are watching polls on DeLay very carefully, said Norm Ornstein, a congressional expert at the American Enterprise Institute. "They are all nervous as hell and don't want to break ranks — yet," he said.

1. But, there's nothing illegal or immoral about Delay's fundraising!

He said so himself! Why would they give the money back?

I suggest any repug that doesn't confess "because it's dirty" should be accused of complicity and given zero credit for giving it back.

9. Totally agree, whistle.
They knew where that money came from when they accepted it in the first place. I don't know if it's a crime in NH, NM or any other state, but it was tainted money and they are just as guilty by association whether they return it or not.

10. Be afraid all you who took this dirty money...
Be very afraid.

The free reign you've been enjoying is about to come to an end. If you are involved in illegal actions you can and WILL be prosecuted. You will be shamed in eyes of your constituents and your political careers will be over.

Let Tom DeLay be a lesson to all of you, we're watching every move you make. You're not really getting away with it, it's just a matter of time before it catches up to.

Do you think you can continue to lay down with dogs and not come up with fleas?

13. Well, something has to actually happen to them...
There is no justice for the elite, as far as I've seen. It's pretty much a given there will be no convictions or any punishment. That's just reality. They make the rules, and they will do whatever they want.

I'm sure DeLay and anyone else implicated will be re-elected. All Republicans have to do is say they believe in Jeebus, pro-life, pro-NRA and they're re-elected. A stupid public + a corrupt system in which those who are indicted make the laws = no changes.

I hope you're right, but I'll reserve tough talk for the day when punishment is handed down.

History. He still has residual power, though, and that is what they are afraid of. He will bite them on the ass if they all walk now. That's what happens if you deal with the devil.
