Peace Corps Director to Leave Post
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uslatest/story/0,1282,-3302971,00.html

In his 20 months as director, he said the Peace
Corps established programs in nine countries.
Vasquez plans to return to his home state of
California.

He was confirmed as director by the Senate,
overcoming opposition from former volunteers
who said he lacked foreign policy experience.

Vasquez, 48, served as Orange County supervisor
from 1987-1995. He was the state's
highest-ranking elected Hispanic Republican and
had close ties to then-Gov. Pete Wilson.

He later became vice president in charge of public
affairs at Southern California Edison Co.

1. Hey, he may be a repub, but I'll take him over Elaine Chao anytime..
What the hell she was doing in that post I'l never know. I should; we've always had these damn political appointees and buddies of whomever. When I was a Volunteer, even though Peace Corps is technically an independent agency, State really supervised us - and guess who was Sec'ty of State at the time? Your favorite war criminal, Henry the K!
