Feinstein to Vote against Roberts Confirmation

Feinstein to Vote against Roberts Confirmation

(Washington -AP, September 22, 2005) - A second Judiciary Committee Democrat, Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, announced Thursday she would oppose Supreme Court nominee John Roberts as his nomination made its way to the full Senate.

Feinstein, the committee's only woman, said her vote was decided after Roberts refused to fully answer her and other Democrats' questions in his confirmation hearing last week.
"I knew as little about what Judge Roberts really thought about issues after the hearings as I did before the hearing. This makes it very hard for me," said Feinstein, an abortion rights supporter.

"I cannot in good conscious cast a 'yea' vote. I will cast a 'no' vote," she said. She revealed her vote as the committee prepared to make its official decision later in the afternoon. A vote in Roberts' favor was assured, with the panel's majority of 10 Republicans united for the conservative justice.

1. Good
I am glad she is making he right decision here. Even if it is a forgone conclusion, there is no need to rubber stamp said conclusion.

6. Wouldn't it be more productive if you criticized those
who are going to vote Yes instead of those who are going to vote NO?

I really am getting impatient with such defeatist thinking.

11. She is rightfully being watched because she waited & waited &waited & wait
ed, and only after the dickless loser (and model liberal) Leahy stabbed his fellow Democrats and Harry Reid in the back, does she come out from under the cover and opportunistically issue her proclamation.

21. Only in the short run.
If we allow ourselves to forget that the real problem is Money, then the real problem will only get worse. More and more of our "representatives" will find themselves representing dollars instead of people, and we will be completely and permanently screwed.

5. You'd think this wouldn't be news.
Feinstein is so utterly disgusting. I really don't like saying that. I even used to like her. But just watching her on cspan made me want to gag. What a pompous ass. And having pleaded with her office to vote against Chimpy's illegal invasion. But she voted for his war. Anyways...

Good. She's not going to vote against the interests of thinking Americans.

8. Just once I would like to see all Democrats....
Agree to take the same position. I know that's what makes us different from the Repugs, that we don't blindly follow the party line, but just once i would like to see a united front on something this important.

15. Please don't hate me, but we could do a lot WORSE than ole'
John Roberts. Consider, just for a moment that both Feingold and Leahy may just KNOW what they are doing?

I can't decide who is more pathetic: the mainstream media, or unnamed D.C. strategists/aides/beltway-gliterrati-types and the Democratic Party they've run into the ground? The former's reporting on some of the most important issues has become so silly and divorced from reality that you'd think you were reading/hearing/watching something that was deliberately fiction. The latter regularly spews such inane drivel that you'd think the Democratic Party was actually trying to lose elections and embarrass itself.

In trying to answer the "who is more pathetic?" question, we can look no further than the to-do over Supreme Court nominee John Roberts for clues. The media is breathlessly discussing how Democrats - especially 2008 presidential hopefuls - supposedly have a big choice to make in their vote on Roberts: whether to vote no to supposedly pander to the Democratic base, or vote yes and supposedly play to "centrist" voters. Here's the third-grade-level question that the Ivy Leaguers in the Beltway media can't seem to even fathom, much less consider: what is "appealing" to centrists about voting for a guy as extreme as John Roberts?

Feinstein Says She Will Vote 'No' on Roberts
By Maura Reynolds, Times Staff Writer

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein said this morning she would vote against confirming John G. Roberts Jr. as chief justice, disclosing her opposition only at the last moment as the Senate Judiciary Committee neared its vote on Roberts' nomination.

Sens. Herbert Kohl and Russell D. Feingold, both Wisconsin Democrats and committee members, announced they would vote to confirm Roberts, setting up a likely vote of 13-5 in favor of the appellate judge's nomination.

I'm deeply disappointed in Russ Feingold.

I hope the good people of California hand both Arnie and DiFi their political a**es. That would be beautiful! They have forgotten who elected them. Hint: It wasn't those bloated special interest groups.

24. I would make a terrible senator; I wouldn't vote for anyone Bush nominated
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 01:05 AM by Baconfoot
I would just take it as evidence that the nominee would be a poor choice.

Me and Bush nominees are like my boyfriend and green vegetables.
I do tend to think my position on Bush nominees is more rational but that's what I WOULD say isn't it.

;)

28. Good....she might have my vote in 2006 now...I'm still pissed at her for
so many of her DINO DI votes and the image that will be burned in my mind's eye will be her cooing over Condi Rice in the confirmation hearings and the fact that she agreed to "introduce" her....That was for me the straw that broke the camel's back with her. If she had voted to confirm Roberts, I would have made sure that I gave the max donation to any challenger of hers. Now, I'm atleast willing to wait and see what else she does in the coming year....
