Bush cousin Bert Walker is choice to be next U.S. ambassador to Hungary

WASHINGTON (AP)

President Bush is keeping it in the family, with the choice of his father's cousin to be the next U.S. ambassador to Hungary.

George H. Walker III of Missouri will take the top diplomatic post in Hungary if his nomination is confirmed by the Senate.

Hungary is among several smaller countries lining up to join the United States and Britain in helping to keep the peace in postwar Iraq.

Walker is the first cousin of former President Bush, the current president's father. He is chairman emeritus of St. Louis-based Stifel Financial Corp. and Stifel, Nicolaus & Co., Inc., a regional brokerage and investment banking firm. He started at Stifel as an executive vice president in 1976. ---
