Blanco wants feds to foot full bill for Katrina recovery
Sept 15, 2005

BATON ROUGE -- Gov. Kathleen Blanco has asked the federal government to pay all of Louisiana's costs for recovering from Hurricane Katrina.

If that occurs, it would mark only the second time Washington has picked up the full tab for rebuilding after a multibillion disaster, with the first being recovery from Sept. 11.

Speaking Wednesday night to a joint meeting of the Louisiana House and Senate, Blanco outlined a series of plans and pledges concerning the rebuilding of buildings and lives ravaged in the Aug. 29 storm that ripped across southeast Louisiana, south Mississippi and Alabama.

While the governor stressed the work she wants done -- and she wants that work parceled to Louisiana firms and workers -- she lobbied heavily for federal funds.

"I want the people of Louisiana to know that we have a friend and a partner in President George W. Bush," she said. "I thank you, Mr. President, and I thank the Congress for your initial investment in our immediate recovery and relief. We cannot rebuild without you."

1. Read this article (link enclosed)
I think it gives a better account of where Governor Blanco's coming from and what her aims are and I agree with and support her aims:

6. damn this makes me angry
we could have gotten by with just a 100 million and now it is up to 62.5 and counting BILLION. What a crock of shit. I don't begrudge helping my fellow citizens in a terrible position, but I am sick of spending the really big bucks when we could have had an ounce of prevention to save this pound of cure.
IMPEACH GEORGE BUSH AND SEND THEM ALL TO THE HAGUE
