Biden not satisfied with answers from Roberts
http://www.woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=3844416

CAPITOL HILL Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee are sometimes showing frustration with the answers being given -- or not given -- by chief justice nominee John Roberts.

He's said several times that he can't answer questions because they deal with issues that could come before the Supreme Court. At one point, Senator Joe Biden of Delaware told him, "Go ahead and continue not to answer."He later interrupted an answer from Roberts. And when the committee chairman told him to let Roberts answer, Biden said, "His answers are misleading."Republican chairman Arlen Specter said, "Wait a minute! They may be misleading, but they are his answers."

...a bit more...

7. I am tired of DUers complaining every time a Dem
does something right. It would be more effective if we gave praise where it is due and save complaints for when they are justified Otherwise, we sound like constant whiners & losers.

15. He does one thing and you want him to what?
Most Dems in congress have been shameful, supporting a war of lies, which Biden still thinks is something to stick with, what part of bring them home does he not get???

2. Has he asked him if he's 'the real deal' yet?
Biden puts on a good show, then bends over every time.

3. I'm waiting for him to say
"I really love ya man" and "I'm not going to vote against you, I support you" and some such other crappola.

5. I disagree. Biden is tough, as he should be, but he was also
constantly interrupting Roberts when he tried to answer. Spector did bark at Biden twice, and Kennedy once for now waiting for Roberts to answer.

I saw this as the way a prosecutor deals with a hostil witness in court. I've had it happen to me!

For what it's worth, I think ALL the Senators are playing to the camera. The Pubs do nothing but make speaches and tell Roberts how great he is, and the Dems do WAY too much talking and far too little aasking questions. I think they're all playing for their constituents.

For what it's worth, I'd love to see all these Senators askd short, pointed questions and then shut up and listen to the answers.

8. asking short questions
A few weeks ago, I saw Patrick Leahy on something and he was asked what people should be looking for in these hearings. Leahy's response was that we should watch to see who asked questions and who just used their time to make speeches supporting or opposing the nominee.

And, for what it's worth (not much), I agree with you about Biden. He gets a lot of flack on all the lefty blogs and he's done plenty that really annoyed me. But, nonetheless, I think he's more thoughtful and more sincere than most of the politicians of either stripe up there.

6. It is ironic...
That Roberts' nonanswers are so slick and impressive that it is even spooking conservatives. The way I see it, there are two potentials for Roberts (my guess is option 1 but I hope for option 2).
1. He is truly a fundie that was nominated by a fundie to overturn Roe v. Wade and help secure the neocon agenda...he is cruising in slick and stealh posing as somewhere in the middle much like Bush did in the 2000 election with his big tent inclusive crapola.
2. He is truly a brilliant attorney that actually uses the law as a guide and Bush wanted to nominate him an pretend he was a conservative so when history looks back at all his screw-ups they'll say at least he got this appointment right.
I'd put the probability of #1 at 95% but #2 would be nice...the glass is slightly full :)

10. Roberts can lie all he wants - nothing can be done about it -->
if the votes for confirmation are there the dems cannot stop it and since they are not really a true opposition party that OPPOSES not likely they will try to block.

13. Iran Contra - Roberts shady past
Is anyone asking questions about his involvement in Iran Contra? Surely our founding fathers didn't intend for people with past links to treasonous activities to be considered for the highest court.

Its almost as if Dems are ignoring this issue.

18. Dems will confirm him anyway
We have far too many corrupt and spineless Dems to block an inappropriate nomination.

Especially in the Senate.
