75. So why is CNN speculating about
the reason for the outage. Stewwwwwwwwwwwps why must everything be made into one big 'scare everyone'. Wolf is going on and on about terror threats. He mentions the threat and then says Homeland security says this has nothing to do with terror. Have they all gone mad. I swear they have a plan to whip everyone into a frenzy.

You don't take paid actors on CNN seriously, or consider that stuff actual news, do you?

You know it's all just acting, and reading lines, right?

It's not real. It's just purely entertainment now.

111. I live in LA, we have had brown outs all summer

Someone told me that they were taking turns in various areas of the city.

Maybe every three days our lights have been out for 2 -3 hours.

Saving Arrrnold money I guess.

Don't think this is connected but don't know.

This time the lights did not go out in my area.

Large Portion of Los Angeles Loses Electrical Power

LOS ANGELES - A large portion of Los Angeles was blacked out Monday when electrical power was lost.
The power got knocked out shortly before 1 p.m. after two power surges.

Traffic lights throughout downtown and the San Fernando Valley were not working, causing major traffic problems, according to video from helicopter news crews.

Downtown highrises also were darkened.

The city's department of water and power said it was investigating the cause and extent of the outage.

39. Solar flare? Sun's String of Fury Continues as 7th Major Flare Erupts
Sun's String of Fury Continues as 7th Major Flare Erupts
By Robert Roy Britt
Senior Science Writer

An ongoing series of seven major solar flares, including two on Saturday, could disrupt communications on Earth and generate colorful sky shows for people at high northern latitudes for the next several days.

Already satellites have been affected. Even more serious effects are possible this week.

The spate of activity from the Sun is being generated by a large sunspot named 798. Sunspots are cooler and darker regions of pent-up magnetic activity. When they unleash their energy, it's a bit like the top coming off a shaken champagne bottle.

The sunspot is just rotating into view, so its energy has been directed sideways and not directly at Earth. In coming days, if more major flares erupt as forecasters expect, they'll head right at us and radio blackouts, cell phone dropouts and other communications disruptions are more likely, scientists said.

LA's power gets "wheeled" in from far away. Long North-South transmission lines are very vulnerable to the sorts of geomagnetic disturbances a solar flare can cause.

Considering it takes 9 minutes for radiation to travel to earth, I don't think there's any connection.

More likely, Enron is counter-attacking.

87. I just called work - no reports of solar flare interference.
As noted above, I work in satellite broadcasting (DirecTV), so if there had been flares significant enough to knock out power here, there would have been channel losses caused by those same flares.

Work reports no outages due to flares, but a number due to power failures.

Don't know if that's useful, but there it is.

98. KCBS UPDATE: Major Power Outage In L.A. (KCBS)

Major Power Outage In L.A.

# Terrorism Not Suspected

Sep 12, 2005 2:19 pm US/Pacific
LOS ANGELES (AP) A blackout hit a large portion of the Los Angeles area Monday afternoon, snarling traffic at intersections and trapping people in elevators.

The city was investigating the cause of the outage. But Sgt. Catherine Plows, a police spokeswoman, said terrorism was not suspected.

The electricity was knocked out shortly before 1 p.m. after two power surges, and outages were reported from downtown to the coast and north into the San Fernando Valley, an area encompassing hundreds of thousands of residents and thousands of businesses.

Los Angeles International Airport lost power, but its emergency generator kicked in promptly, and no flights were affected, said Harold Johnson, an airport spokesman.

99. The Crater That Was L.A.
The power was out for about 40 minutes, if I timed it correctly. I was on the road, talking to someone who was on a landline that cut out when the outage happened.

After a couple of stutters, the power came back online at about 2PM.

All corporate-news sponsored terror hysteria aside, people seem to have handled this rather casually.

102. First of all I HATE the "Situation Room" on general principal
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 04:37 PM by symbolman
and Secondly WHY was a "Situation Room" CREATED for CNN?

All the hallmarks of perception management - Situation Rooms denote WAR, Carnage, destruction all needed to be cleaned up by big strong men with the latest in technology and the wisdom of the ages.

WAR, WAR, WAR..

Thirdly, don't they realise that constant editing on a large scale (of course it's confusing, they DO want that, once confused a person will be more likely to accept what they are told)makes people (at least me) uncomfortable..

Nothing like seeing Wolfie and whoever surrounded by death and mayhem to make the association mentally that they are like BAD NEWS and you don't want to SEE THEM..

Bizzarre really, Wolfie sitting there with a bunch of papers wagging a pen around as he floats through one scene of disaster after another - sort of has a "Triumph of the WIll" kind of feel to it, without the crowds, voyeristical..

then there's that stupid table with the words on it so oblique you can't read it, like a screwy bar table..

all the Land masses are shown in RED with blue laser waves passing below it, like War of the Worlds on Election day.

Really dumb, but the perception control is on the mark I believe, and it worries me that BushCo will be one disaster after another for the rest of his term and CNN KNOWS IT..

Hold on to your seat, personally I moved to Hawaii, fuck 'em :) I live on the outer edges of the New Roman Empire..
