Rastafarians Gather in Jamaica for Summit

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Hundreds of dreadlocked Rastafarians gathered in Jamaica's capital Wednesday to talk about the future of their faith, including how more followers can be repatriated to Africa and how to convince governments to allow marijuana use.

Rastas from the Caribbean, the United States, Europe and Africa gathered for the weeklong meeting in Kingston, where reggae artists like Bob Marley and Peter Tosh gave the religion a world stage in the 1970s through songs promoting peace, nonviolence, legal marijuana and "one love."

Trevor Stewart, a leader from the Bobo Ashanti sect, said the conference will discuss the Rastafarian faith and trying to end global conflict.

"You can't rule the world with vigor and guns and bullets. It's love that rules the world," Stewart said.

10. Laura and I went to a Ziggy concert at the La Luna in Portland...

a few years back. We were standing in the over 21 area before the first band started when an elderly black woman stood next to us. She was really beautifully decked out in Rasta garb and jewelry. We started talking to her and she had a sip of our virgin pino coladas. The was loud Bob Marley music playing and she offered to show us how the Regga women danced. We really had fun with her. When Ziggy finaly came on stage, she was in the band. She was Bob's mother! What a night. I'll always cherish that time with her. It was truely magic.
