Protestors "shame" Bush over Katrina response (Yahoo AFP)
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Around 150 people, including a handful of evacuees from Hurricane Katrina, protested outside the White House, accusing
President George W. Bush of letting down the victims of the disaster.

"I want to know what the government is gonna do now ... I'm very angry," said Michelle Augillard, a student who fled her native New Orleans before Katrina hit.

With the US flag flying at half mast over the White House out of respect for the hurricane victims, the protestors chanted "Impeach Bush" and held up blue and yellow banners reading: "Shame" and "Help the Hurricane Victims."

1. flag at half mast
...that was actually for Justice Rehnquist; Bush just tagged the hurricane victims on later as an afterthought and after a wave of criticism

2. The flag is not at half staff for the flood victims.
It's for Rehnquist. It didn't come down until two days after Katrina.

5. Yes you're right..
...and no you're wrong. Mr. Bush said the flag would stay at half-mast for the victims of Katrina for a certain amount of time.

7. I watched as the flag was lowered.. Washington Journal has it
in their background.. They were discussing Rehnquist's croaking the night before and how the flag would be lowered to half staff..and BAM! there it went down the pole.. Later that day, people satrted commenting on how odd it was that it had NOT already been lowered for Katrina victims..and a few hours later *² makes a lame speech, and says (paraphrasing)..oh yeh, the flag will stay down a while for the flood people too...

It NEVER occurred to him to do that until people started in on him about his super-speedy promotion of an unappointed guy to be chief justice...poor ole rennie wasn't even cold yet :eyes:

10. wasn't lowered until the old racist croaked well after shoulda been for NO
victims. No decency in these Bush people and anyone who tries to moderate condemnations of them and their enablers which I have seen here and on Daily Kos, I feel sorry for you because you don't get what we're up against.

25. Here is the article that shows the flag was lowered for Rhenquist
"With the flag flying at half-staff over the White House in honor of Rehnquist, Bush noted that the chief justice's death creates the second opening on the Supreme Court, following the retirement announcement in July of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor."

12. No, but they can sure feel f-e-a-r.
Right now, there is hair-raising fear in Washington. It's on their faces: they're pasty white. The beads of sweat are building on their foreheads. The shirts are stained under the arms.

They are afraid of losing power. They realize MOST of America is sticking up for the people in N. Orleans.

Bush is scrambling. He's trotting out all his family members. Next, we'll hear Cheney praising Bush. Also Rove, next Gonzalez, don't forget John Snowjob. They'll all get up there and screech how much HE CARES.

14. Agreed.... serves them right...
for years they've used FEAR to try and manipulate Americans into following lockstep but now the veil has been lifted and more Americans are finally seeing that the Emperor not only has no clothes but he NEVER has had them... it's ALL been lies and illusions.

BushCo can screech about how Bush* "cares" as much as they want but for DAYS MILLIONS watched the reality. For DAYS we saw or heard of people, of babies dying. For days we heard that aid was WAITING to help and being turned away. For DAYS we wondered WHY food and water weren't being air dropped or driven into folks when it was THERE.

The ONLY ones truly buying the spin of "Bush cares" are those who: are totally disconnected from "the world" (although even the Amish often read the news); are either seriously delusional and/or are a sociopath themselves; have an IQ lower then that of drone bee or are so darn deeply brainwashed and living in the BS and stench that they sadly are totally blind and deaf to what's really going on.

OTOH the spin of it's not being Bush's responsibility and fault is one that we MUST and CAN do something about. We must continue to fight SPIN with FACTS and LIES with TRUTH

undersecretary of state, that hateful hack can sing *'s praises all around the world through her cheap, cheap lies, smears, and photo ops.

She has zero qualifications as sec of state. None. * will continue to put everyone who cheated for him in govt jobs until there isn't an expert anywhere in government.
