Gingrich critical of hurricane response
----------------------
WASHINGTON At least one prominent Republican is critical of President Bush and his administration for their response to the ravages of Hurricane Katrina.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich urges Bush to appoint Rudolph Giuliani to head relief efforts. Gingrich told The Associated Press that no one is better prepared for the job than Giuliani, who was mayor of New York on Nine-Eleven.

Gingrich says the pace of the federal disaster response puts into question Homeland Security and Northern Command planning over the last four years. He rhetorically asks why the government believes it's prepared for a nuclear or biological attack when it can't respond to an event that was predicted days in advance.

they're using (a little) tax money to respond (too late). (Comments in parens not meant to represent Norquist.)

Giuliani.

Setting the stage for a possible Giuliani presidential campaign.

21. I'm not so sure. Fundamentalists are skilled at twisted logic.
If Rudy somehow gets the repuke nomination, I'm sure they'll find a way to rationalize all his "sins" away. All he'll have to do is say he's "found Jesus" since then, and he gets a free pass.

Now if he was a Democrat... forget it. He'd be tarred forever for even the mildest "offense." But Gawd is a Republican, dontcha know. :D

27. Oh please. All he has to be is anti-gay, anti-abortion and say he accepts
Jesus as his personal savior and he can do whatever sleazy, muderous thing he wants.

It was Rove's greatest accomplishment...conning the Fundies with the "I've accepted Jesus as my personal savior" bit. Worked like a charm!

24. *shudder*
:scared:

:D Seriously, though, I'm not sure he'll run. He's got so much baggage, he may prefer to try to be the power behind the throne.

But who knows? Newt's hubris is boundless. Maybe his ego will drive him into the race after all.

6. So. Newt IS going to run.
Sweeties, this could be the start of a Republican feeding frenzy.

All those boys who want to be president are going to gauge the rage of the nation...

And DeLay and Rove will have to try and hold it together? Ho, ho, ho.

7. I'm so fucking sick of Giuliani
His political career was over before 9/11 now all of a sudden this piece of crap is considered to be a frontrunner in 2008? The hell?

Ironically enough, New Yorkers themselves don't think very highly of him at all. It was these media whores which turned this bum into a "hero".

28. Ask me how BLACK New Yorkers feel about Giuliani.
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 09:39 PM by NYC
In general, New Yorkers do not like Giuliani. (I personally don't know one who does.) However, Giuliani seemed to develop a special relationship with black New Yorkers.

Imagine sending him to help the black people of New Orleans. Wouldn't they be thrilled with the choice.

he and Giuliani are made for each other. I wonder if they compare notes on their preferences in the opposite sex.

15. Uh.... Newt....
it takes a U.S. President to mobilize Homeland Security, FEMA, and Northern Command in a time of national crisis - and your man Shrub was on vacation Monday and Tuesday, didn't return to D.C. until Wednesday night, didn't do anything but give speeches and talk to people all day Thursday, and didn't send any relief until today, Friday, day 5 of the disaster, timed to coincide with his pathetic politically motivated photo-ops.

Indeed, with this kind of President, this country is surely doomed in the event of a nuclear, chemical, or biological attack on, say, Los Angeles.

If you want someone new to head up relief efforts, Newt, start with the U.S. President. He's the one ultimately in charge of relief efforts.

33. bush can't afford to appoint anyone who might be an effective leader
in this situation. any success would be attributed to that person and would tend to distract from bush's "supreme leadership." whoever is in charge will be hailed as a hero who did what bush could not.
