Papers hail heroes but blast Bush

Even as US newspapers report the unfolding disaster in New Orleans and the US Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina, some are apportioning blame for the extent of the devastation.

The Washington Post says

...

"A huge chunk of America's heritage - the remnants of what was once France's largest North American colony, a Creole culture unique on this continent - is in severe jeopardy," it says.

It, too, praises "admirable" heroism and generosity in response to the catastrophe.

...

Other papers are more scathing.

"George W Bush gave one of the worst speeches of his life yesterday," says the New York Times in an editorial.

...

"And nothing about the president's demeanour yesterday - which seemed casual to the point of carelessness - suggested that he understood the depth of the current crisis."

1. Has the Rove & co. propaganda machine just given up?
It seems like they don't even try anymore. They used to at least pretend they cared about this country, maybe they realize no one is falling for it anymore and they have just given up.

Rack up another clusterfuck courtesy of bush** and his useless administration.

They're untouchable even if the sheeple don't quite fall in line. Crooked elections mean they don't have to care about anything.

Sorry to yell, but I'M YELLING!!!!!!!!

Visualize IMPEACHMENT!!!!
And REMOVAL FROM OFFICE!!!!!!!!!
Then go DO something about it.

Does make me wonder, by the way, how big that anti-war, and anti-bush rally in Washington will be, later this month. LOTS more people have a bone to pick with this little shithead.

BTW - don't you love how the NYTimes faulted bush for making a lousy speech?!??!?!?!?!?!?!??! WTF??!??!?!?!?!?

30. Tesla, I'm sick of this slander against the American people
--calling them "sheeple."

58% of the American people opposed the Iraq war BEFORE the invasion. Feb. '03. I'll never forget that stat. Before all the lies were exposed; before the full horror and costs of it were known. Across the board in all polls. 58%! That number dipped only once, during the few weeks of the invasion with U.S. troops at max risk, then went right back up to nearly 60%, where it stayed throughout the presidential campaign. It's over 70% today. The American people have NEVER supported this war.

And if you look at the issue polls over the last year, you find that the great majority of Americans oppose every major Bush policy, foreign and domestic, way up in the 60% to 70% range. You name it. The Iraq war. Torture policy. Social Security. The deficit. Women's rights. It's amazing, really.

And on top of this are Bush's approval rating polls, so low leading up to the election that Zogby said he couldn't win--at a miserable 49% on the very day of his inauguration (unprecedented for recently reelected, 2nd term president) and now sunk to the low 30s.

And on top of that, the exit polls on election day, saying Kerry won--falsified by the TV news monopolies on election night, who "adjusted" their exit polls (Kerry won) to fit the "official tally" coming from Diebold's and ES&S's SECRET, PROPRIETARY vote tabulation formulae (Bush won).

The American people are not stupid, and they are not "sheeple." What they are is disempowered and DISENFRANCHISED.

we all know what happened then: the PR machine kicked into gear, he stood on the graves of the lost with that stupid bullhorn and now he's a little tin God.

I'll believe he's in the shit when this goes on for a week without a comparison to Churchill.

Idiot was MIA for like three days after 9/11. Bill Clinton was in Australia on 9/11 and was in NYC before our supposed leader.

But, you're right about the PR machine. Now they'll blow sunshine up his rear for cutting his vacation a day short. What a great leader!

17. Maybe not. Trouble is, he can't blame this one on the "evildoers"
and he can't rally the base by calling for (someone else to take care of, but) payback.
Which means he's coming up blank. At least he gets a little fire in his eyes with the righteous violence thing. This calls for patience and compassion and competence, none of which he has.

Oh, yeah, and: there isn't enough money/resources to fix this, hell to have prevented the worst of the damage in the first place, and it's all his fault, pretty much. So.

27. This New Orleans Catastrophe WAS LIHOP
Not one reasonable step of preparedness or prevention was taken, even though national security and homeland defense woulld be the outcome. Budgets were cut, programs cancelled, and existing protections gutted. He let it happen, on purpose.

This is a high crime, if ever there was one. Will the GOP compound it by refusing to investigate and impeach Bush?

37. It takes Terri Schiavo for * to cut short his vacation in a timely manner
(When I say "timely" I don't mean appropriate. Just prompt.)

I hope that pictures of him doing his cake-cutting and guitar-playing are displayed far and wide once the emergency is over, when the utter carelessness with which this disaster was handled should become the next issue. This should be coupled with how millions of dollars were diverted from fortifying the levees to Iraq.

29. He's lost it
Just watched his little speech and he obviously has lost the ability to function. He could barely read. Proof being he wouldn't let Bush 41 or Clinton speak though they were standing there and obviously expected to and all the press there thought they would speak. The idiot spoke and then walked off without another word and left Poppy and Clinton just standing.
