Feds Unable to Pin Down Source of Mad Cow

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - The government closed its investigation into the
nation's first domestic case of mad cow disease Tuesday, saying it
could not pin down how a Texas cow was infected with the brain-wasting
ailment.

Officials continue to believe the 12-year-old Brahma cross cow ate
contaminated feed before the United States banned ground-up cattle
remains in cattle feed.

The only way the disease is known to spread is through eating brain
and other nerve tissue from infected cows.

"The investigation did not identify a specific feed source as the
likely cause of this animal's infection," said Steve Sundlof, director
of the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine.

Sundlof said the most likely culprit was tainted feed eaten before
the 1997 ban.

3. It's simple: cannibalism causes systemic insanity
This is well known in humans, and is probably a controlling element in natural selection: don't eat your own kind.

Elderly cannibals have an overwhelming incidence of dementia. Amimals that eat flesh of their own species are the same. Mad Cow victims tend to be ones who were fed nightmarish ground-up feed of other cattle. It's pretty fucking simple.

Health authorities know this. It's no new news.

5. You know what this reminds me of? it's kinda grim
Does anyone remember when the French health dept decided that they really didn't want to know if the blood supply was contaminated with AIDS? Anybody remember that?

I think some people went to prison -- or at least they richly deserved to. It was a major, major scandal when the inevitable happened.

Bush-appointees strike again... Everything for the corporate bosses, nothing for the public they're supposed to protect. Just another Bush train wreck about to happen.

God help us all.
