Iowa city removes rainbow following complaints from anitgay resident
http://www.advocate.com/new_news.asp?ID=9284&sd=07/16/03

The city of Nevada, Iowa, has yanked pictures of a rainbow off signs at local parks after an angry resident claimed it promotes homosexuality and immorality. The signs, placed in seven city parks, were intended to promote a local character-development program and its six rainbow-colored pillars depicting respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship. The CharACTer Nevada program is a local chapter of the Los Angeles-based Character Counts! program.

**this has to be one of the silliest things that I've ever heard of**

1. What would Freud say?
Sometimes a rainbow is just a rainbow?

So does that mean we should get rid of churches because it promotes
religion, which promotes hate in certain circumstances, which promotes evil.....etc..........

13. Rename town to Compassion, Iowa.
Sounds like this place has its share of gay bashers, cretins and other types of low life knuckle draggers.

"In a letter presented at a city council meeting Don Juhl had a different interpretation of the rainbow. "The thought that our city was being asked to endorse homosexuality and prominently display this public badge of the homosexual community makes a mockery of the word 'character,' " Juhl said. He submitted copies of gay pride advertisements featuring rainbows and information on how the rainbow relates to the gay community"

3. It would be very easy for Iowa City residents to repaint rainbows ...
on the signs.

That would be good repudiation of the angry resident who doesn't want to promote espect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship, but who does want to promote homophobia and discrimination.

5. Nevada is not Iowa city
Iowa City is a poorly named town, I guess
but I hope that they would never do something
this stupid.

But Nevada, Iowa , I can believe it.

Iowa City, I like to hope better from having
grown up there and it being somewhat
more progressive that most of Iowa.

7. Yummm...Iowa City. . .
Iowa City is one of those magical towns that, as my ex-girlfriend put it:

where they vote to build libraries and vote to not build prisons.

after an election to vote on those very two things. :-)

Gore kicked serious ass in Iowa City, it wasn't even close. Great city.

6. Here we go again....
How long is it now before congress introduces anti-rainbow legislation. Not pictures of rainbows mind you, but actual rainbows. Mother Nature has always been in cahoots with the 'gay community'. It seems I can't go a week without seeing nature promoting the 'gay agenda'. Not only that, but they reveal the location of my secret treasure. Damn kids, always trying to steal me gold.

12. wasn't the rainbow mythically purported
to represent god's covenant with humanity that he wouldn't send another flood? perhaps outlawing them would be a good idea then. Then god could revoke his promise and exterminate humanity once and for all. I mean, it's not like we're doing a whole heck of a lot of good here anymore...

15. lol, I've had sex in several parks...
so, as far as I'm concerned, parks themsleves "promote immorality". :spank:

God, people who spend time fighting rainbows have too much time on their hands. They should do something useful... like go follow Phelps around or something. :puke:
