Seven of the nine Democratic candidates participated in the event, titled "Speaking of Equality," to talk specifically on issues like gay marriage, "don't ask, don't tell," HIV (news - web sites)/AIDS (news - web sites) treatment and care and more.

However, only three, former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun, Rev. Al Sharpton and Rep. Dennis Kucinich, endorsed gay marriage.
"That's like asking: Do I support black or white marriage? We must stop the separation of gays and lesbians from other Americans," Sharpton. "If people respect you, it's not about gays and lesbians; it's about human beings having the right to marry who they choose."
