GOP senators cite progress, Dems frustration
On returning from a trip to Iraq and Afghanistan, a group of Senate Republicans said yesterday that the Bush administration deserves a lot more credit for successful reconstruction efforts in those war-torn nations.

Meanwhile, several Senate Democrats complained that they were denied access to a plane for a inspection tour of their own.

“For whatever reason, Sens. Dodd and others who requested the opportunity to travel were prohibited from doing so, and I think that requires a better explanation that the one I’ve been given so far,” Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) said.

“We have no understanding. We were told that an airplane was not available,” adding that Britain offered them the use of an airplane. “If Britain can offer United States senators an airplane, you would think the United States government could do so as well.”
...
“The trip would have given us a great perspective,” Sen. Jon Corzine (D-N.J.) said. “It’s unfortunate that it didn’t happen. I hope it wasn’t a matter of politics.” He said the Pentagon told him there no planes were available to ferry the group from Jordan to Iraq.

Daschle added: “We have to assume that what <Republican senators> saw is accurate.”

:grr:

Edit: Bad brackets!

2. This sounds very serious.
We can read it here in the Hill- the Dems are speaking up, but will any other media pick up? It looks like the Pentagon is involving itself heavily in politics.

4. Unfrigginbelievable.

Of course they were denied a plane since the fear was palpable amongst the Rovian dogwaggers that what they saw and reported on would not jibe with the new "things are really swell" propaganda "product line" which has been rolled out. They are not even being subtle about their manipulations any more.

5. WoW, this is freaking nuts.
You would think I would be inoculated to this kind of thing by now, but the news never fail to make me feel like we are living in a loony bin. How in the world do they get away with this crap?

8. Exactly rocknation! When will they see they can tie Chimpys hands by
fighting back Enforce! Gephart wants to give the money to shrub half the other Dems do also (according to news today) but when they stand up together and yell and scream, eventually someone will have to listen

They pretend they are powerless, but they aren't. Those who keep supporting the Repugs.

9. As PR .. you would go OUT OF YOUR WAY to make sure the
opposition would be able to see the truth that could do away with the negativity and help to push your cause .. namely giving you the $87 billion you requested.

Since this is something that should be obvious to anyone, why did they NOT go out of their way to AVOID any and all appearances of being partisan or prejudice?

Was the plan to promote more BS via the repukes as positive while the dems sit and whine that they weren't included to make the dems look like big crying, complaining babies?

There's a strategy here, just not sure what because it is obvious that if things were really that good there, as they state, then they would have gone way overboard to make sure ALL parties were allowed inside to see it for themselves.
