Vietnam Finds Mass Grave of Soldiers
Vietnam Finds Mass Grave of Soldiers

The Associated Press
July 26, 2005

Authorities in central Vietnam have discovered a mass grave of communist soldiers from the Vietnam War and have removed the remains of six of the 48 soldiers believed to have been buried there, officials said Tuesday.

The remains of the six soldiers, recovered in Hai Lam village in Quang Tri province, some 360 miles south of Hanoi, were buried at a military cemetery on Monday, said village chief Tran Van Tra.

None of the remains were identified, he said, adding that excavators also found some personal effects including rubber sandals, water containers, pens and hammocks.

A villager found the first set of remains while working in his garden last week and reported it to authorities, Tra said.

1. .
"There are an estimated 300,000 communist soldiers still unaccounted for since the end of the Vietnam War in 1975."

Editorial comment: war is bad for your health.

2. "communist soldiers"?
They were Vietnamese soldiers fighting to reunify their country. After a millennium as one entity, Vietnam was split into two countries by the West in 1954, fearful that democratic elections would result in a unified Vietnam under Ho Chi Minh.

4. It took me a long time to understand that these were
patriots trying to reunify their country. We entered a civil war under false pretenses.

The Wall contains 58,264 names carved on black granite. Not on The Wall is a generation of fucked up soldiers. Some, such as myself, were lucky enough to come home physically intact and establish a relatively normal life. Others were damaged to the point that they are still not capable of a normal life.

The kids coming back now have all that and more in their futures. Depleted uranium poisoning is worse than Agent Orange.

The Vietnamese will never fully know about their losses.
