Japan defuses one-ton bomb

Tokyo - Thousands of residents were evacuated in western Japan on Monday as security forces defused an unexploded, one-ton bomb believed to have been dropped during United States air raids in World War 2, police said.

The bomb, about 1,8m long and 60cm in diameter, was unearthed last month by workers at a construction site in Osaka, a police spokesperson said on condition of anonymity.

About 4 400 residents were evacuated while the Ground Self Defence Forces and police bomb squad defused the device, which was expected to take several hours, the police spokesperson said. A nearby subway station and roads were also closed.

I bet this goes on a lot. We just do not hear about them. This whole war thing is really getting to me. It is like I have lived through one big war in my life. The time and goods that have been wasted and I do not wish to count the deaths.We never learn a thing.

2. I was living down in the keys

When a trawler caught a 500 lb. bomb/mine in it's nets. It was a hoot listening to everyone freaking out on the marine radio.
