Venezuela Tax Agency Confiscates Documents from Chevron

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Venezuela's tax authority confiscated tax-related documents at Chevron Corp.'s administrative offices on Thursday, the state-run news agency reported.

Officials from the Seniat Tax Agency took the documents from offices belonging to San Ramon, Calif.-based Chevron in the city of Maracaibo, located roughly 300 miles west of Caracas.

Jose Cedillo Moreno, a Seniat official, told the Bolivarian News Agency the company had previously refused to hand over the documents.>>>>snip

Jose Vielma Mora, director of the tax agency, said last week that he would take steps to fine and temporarily close the administrative offices of several oil firms this week for failing to follow Venezuela's tax laws. He said any actions toward that goal would not disrupt oil product>>>>snip
