Rep. Dingell Recovering After Surgery

Saturday October 11, 2003 8:31 PM

WASHINGTON(AP) - Rep. John Dingell, the longest serving member of the House, was resting at home Saturday after surgery to replace a stent in an artery.

``I'm in good shape,'' Dingell, D-Mich., said after his release from the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.. ``I'm ready to be back to work Tuesday.''

Monday, Columbus Day, is a federal holiday.

Dingell, 77, had the stent inserted in May to open a blocked artery. During a follow-up examination, doctors noticed the stent - a tiny metal scaffold that props open a cleaned-out artery - was narrowing, so they decided to replace it.

over 44 million Americans are without health insurance.

Glad to hear Dingell is doing fine.

Think he'll want to work on some legislation so all Americans can get the same health coverage he has?
