Kerry Leads 2004 Democrats in Cash in the Bank
WASHINGTON (Reuters)

Democrat John Kerry on Tuesday reported his presidential campaign had nearly $11 million in the bank at the end of June, comfortably topping the party's crowded field of 2004 White House hopefuls in cash.

North Carolina Sen. John Edwards was second with $8.1 million in the bank after raising $4.5 million in April, May and June, while former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean's $7.6 million haul in those three months left him in third with $6.4 million in cash-on-hand.

The amount of available cash is a crucial indicator for candidates as the 2004 campaign heats up and they begin to buy television advertising and extend their operations across the country.

"We are in a better financial situation than any other Democrat in history at this stage of the race," said Kerry's campaign manager Jim Jordan. At this point in 1999, Vice President Al Gore had $9.4 million in the bank and rival Bill Bradley had $6 million. ---

4. Edwards is coming from high dollar donors.
Dean's is coming from ordinary people. Dean's average donation was $120, and less than 1000 donations were over $1,000.

12. Next Question: Did Kerry really say, 'We can take out Dean anytime.'?
Can someone provide a link? If so, Kerry is crap. It's not the words which should be coming from a President. If he didn't apology, he's arrogant just like The Bush/GOP Crime Family. I'm going to start making GOP toons of Kerry!

14. No, he didn't
I haven't got a link to hand I'm afraid but the quotation from the Kerry Campaign was that they could "take ON Dean anytime." A big difference methinks.

5. We can't beat Bush on campaign funding...
Edited on Tue Jul-15-03 09:53 PM by w4rma
All of the Democrats were swamped in fund-raising by President Bush, who reported raising $34.4 million in April, May and June, a record haul for a three-month period.

Dean Raises $7.5 Million in Second Quarter
In the second quarter ending yesterday, 59,000 Americans donated an average of $112 to help boost Governor Howard Dean to the top of the second quarter fundraisers with a total of $7.5 million raised.

Unlike the small, exclusive multi-million dollar fundraisers held in major cities by President Bush over the last week, the Dean campaign saw its numbers surge based on small donations over the Internet—with nearly $3 million raised online in the last week alone. In the second quarter, 45,030 people donated online a total of 51,474 times. The average donation online was $74.14.

“When we said last week during the governor’s announcement that ‘You have the power,’ we had no idea just how much power our supporters had,” said Campaign Manager Joe Trippi. “They are people participating directly in their democracy, and doing whatever they can to help us take our country back—giving $20, $30, or $50. This is People-Powered Howard.”

Second quarter fundraising by the numbers:

Total raised in second quarter: $7,500,000 Total donors (2003 to date): 70,000
Average contribution: $112

First time donors in second quarter: 48,000

Levels of Internet Giving:
Less than $50: 18,422
$50 -- 99: 11,579
$100 -- $249: 11,436
$250 -- $499: 2,379
$500 -- $1,000: 368
$1,000 and up: 129

9. i dont trust Kerry
I dont think he has the spine to stand down the neo-cons. Dean has pushed him to his "anti-war" stance. I like Kerry better than Edwards. Edwards was really greasey in his pro-war comments, no guts at all. Trial lawyer cash.......

Grass Roots are where its at.

13. Being rich is not a sin....
Ted Kennedy, Jay Rockefeller, and John Corzine (among others) are solid liberals who are extremely wealthy. Attack Kerry on the issues all you want (he's certainly not my first choice) but skip the cheap shots at his wife's income. If Kerry wins, it won't be because of Teresa's money.
