Cheney to Get High-Tech Pacemaker Exam

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney will undergo a routine exam Friday to check the condition of a high-tech pacemaker that was placed in his chest in June 2001.

Cheney spokeswoman Lea Anne McBride said the tests at George Washington University Medical Center would include a physical exam, an electrocardiogram, an echocardiogram and a stress test. The vice president planned to be back at work later in the day, she said.

"It's a routine physical," she said. She said the vice president also would have a colonoscopy later this month.

Cheney has had four heart attacks, though none as vice president. His last checkup was in May 2004, and determined that his pacemaker, called an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, was working fine and had never had to be activated.

2. June 2001?
Was this implant procedure public knowledge at the time? I don't recall hearing word one about anything after they took office. (And I mean that part about "TOOK")

A couple more double scotches and a burger and he'll be fine.

What a man! What power and fortitude!

Geez, you guys are SO mean.

hence, his Vail trip that nobody said anything about, followed by a week of rest at his ranch, either dick is in danger of needing his pacemaker and under constant medical supervision, or he is making war at the ranch.

7. Thanks for this, but, What is the actual News Source here?
I looked at Yahoo News (which is a news collection point) but I don't see a source or even an Author.

Their are a LOT of Dis-Info sources out there right now, so I hope you understand my questioning of a story like this. It reads a bit amateurish.

It could just be a "cut and paste" of this 7/8/2003 AP/USA Today story:

<http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2003-07-08-cheney-health_x.htm>

Posted 7/8/2003 11:20 AM

Routine check of Cheney's pacemaker turns out fine
WASHINGTON (AP) — A routine exam Tuesday found that Vice President Dick Cheney's high-tech pacemaker is working fine and has not even had to be activated.

Doctors electronically scanned the pacemaking device — called an implantable cardioverter defibrillator.

"The ICD had not detected or treated any arrhythmia," Cheney spokeswoman Cathie Martin said.

The device was placed in Cheney's chest in June 2001. Cheney has had four heart attacks, though none as vice president.

The noninvasive tests at George Washington University Medical Center also included an electrocardiogram, an echocardiogram and a stress test.

"All the news was very good," Martin said.

...no author. It looks like a Government Press Release. It too similar to the 2003 AP/USA Today story not to be.

It almost looks like it came from an automated source, like a scheduled "PR" Press Release.

Their is too much BS and Dis-Info news out there now (with the goal of discrediting ALL Real News) to not question this so-call "News."

14. I'm confused...
Cheney's a heartless, warmongering bastard.

Since when does he have a heart and when did this happen?

My guess is that he's the first salamander heart-transplant recipient. That's where he's been these past weeks--sunning himself on a rock.

I KNEW IT!

22. Those things are not pleasant.
They "shock" your heart when it goes into a dangerous rhythm. Days are definitely numbered if he's getting one of those, after 4 heart attacks. And who in hell wants to hear about things going up that assholes butt?

23. It's not a pacemaker!!!
Pacemakers are small electronic devices that send electronic signals occasionally to the heart to make sure that it has the correct beat. Most of the time, you can't feel it going off at all.

He has an implanted defibrillator--that same thing as the paddles you see on tv used to shock someone back after the heart stops. When it goes off, he'll be on the floor, crying for his mommy. My husband's had several patients with them, and they all say it hurts like hell and you feel like you're going to die but don't.

You also get a ring to turn the thing off if you want to die--you put the ring up by your heart, and it stops the signal somehow. He had a patient who got shocked over 40 times before the ambulance got there, and he seriously considered using the ring.
