Officers reveal Iraq woes (Fijian truck drivers not paid for months)
MORE than 80 local officers recruited by Meridian Services Agency to work as drivers in Iraq have not been paid for the past three months.

The men are calling on the Fiji Government to act on their behalf with Public Warehousing Company and the Iraqi government.

One of the officers, who preferred anonymity, claimed that the overseas recruiting company PWC had not abided by signed contracts over wages for work in Iraq. The source said the 80 men were told to keep driving their trucks and they would be paid later.

They are provided accommodation while in Iraq, but other Fiji officers have to pitch in to buy enough food to support the drivers.

He said 100 men had either been terminated or simply walked off the job in Iraq because of broken promises over conditions.
