U.S. wants defensive missile system in Europe against Iran
The U.S. government is sounding out the possibility of bilateral agreements with European countries to allow stationing of a defensive missile system directed against Iran, a leading German newspaper reported in its Friday edition.

20. No HEALTH CARE ---DRUGS for seniors
These people are pathetic-- "let them eat cake Marie Antoinette proclaimed" This country is the world laughing stock when it comes to health care. If you don't have HEALTH insurance you might as well live in Biafra. Ff you are old and need certain prescriptions, this govt will first make you pauperise and destitute yourself and then they may not give you eveything you need.

DISGUSTING / and outrageous

23. I think Israel already deploys Arrow missiles
plus in the runup for the recent Iraq war the Turks sought and accepted NATO Patriot missile systems. That's not to mention the system surrounding Moscow for twenty years pursuant to the old ABM Treaty.

It's not 1970 anymore, the concept of missile defense is pretty well accepted. Since this story says the approaches are being made to individual nations, we can assume it is to states without a major ideological aversion to missile defense.

So no, I don't think it will be laughed at very hard.

7. Is he talking about "Old Europe"?
The same Europe the Bush thugs have thorougly pissed off? And since when does anybody think they will honor whatever agreement they enter, since Dubya has a track record of disregarding treaties, prior agreemens, or anything else that his booze addled little brain doesn't like?

This whole administration is overrun with psychopaths.

11. Me thinks, the part about Iran is just a ruse…
I think it’s really about who gets the ultimate sale and little nuances like the ABM treaty…just a guess….

<http://www.spacedaily.com/news/bmdo-00zza.html>

The vagueness and timing of the Russian proposal -- floated during an intensifying debate in the United States and Europe over the deployment of the US system -- has raised US suspicions that it is a ploy to drive a wedge in the alliance.

16. The Eastern European countries
Poland, Hungary, etc will unfortunaltly go for this one.

"Countries accepting the missiles would be rewarded by the U.S. with economic assistance, according to the report in the Sueddeutsche Zeitung citing unnamed U.S. State Department officials."

19. Yep
It would be my guess that bush* is courting the new entrants to the EU quite assiduously. I think there are 10 of them, and of of course there is spain and britain.

Also a nice line of pro-bush* countries keeping France/Germany and Russia apart is probably another aim too.

24. Link to original article (in German)
http://www.sueddeutsche.de/ausland/artikel/341/19322/

Seems like the U.S. wants an European contribution to the Star Wars programme ... and Iran has not even got ICBMs.

I hope no European country is willing to pay good money to the Republicans cronies in the U.S. military industry.
