Insurgents in new battles, Bush defends Iraq plan
http://www.swissinfo.org/sen/swissinfo.html?siteSect=143&sid=5900210&cKey=1119718238000

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Insurgents stormed a police station in western Iraq on Saturday and fought a three-hour battle with U.S. and Iraqi forces in the north, challenging assertions from Washington that the revolt is being crushed.

A day after news of a bomb attack that killed six Americans intruded on talks between President Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari, the killing of eight policemen at Ramadi and combat at Tal Afar provided further evidence that Iraqi and foreign fighters remain a force.

Bush used a weekly radio address to reject criticism from opposition Democrats that he had embroiled U.S. forces in a "quagmire" like that of Vietnam 30 years ago and insisted his two-pronged military and diplomatic strategy would work.

Police said about 20 gunmen stormed the station at Ramadi, capital of rebellious Anbar province, the second such raid in a week. Residents and officials at Tal Afar, an insurgent bastion near Mosul where U.S. troops have cracked down this month, said three bomb attacks were followed by a battle involving U.S. tanks and helicopters that lasted about three hours.

"Saturday, 25 June , 2005, 22:05, Iraq: At least 28 people were killed in violence in Iraq on Saturday, as President George W. Bush acknowledged that the daily images of bloodshed made for "grim" viewing."
:wtf:

2. What freakin' plan? I know of no plan for Iraq or Afghanistan
Like paying money and pledging the life of your kid to an insurance company w/o a "plan"? And where are our representatives on this score?

Nowhere, that's where. Worthless, that's what this Congress has been, absolutely worthless.

6. It's Nixon's plan
Nixon tried to assure America that he had a secret plan for getting out of Viet Nam, and we should all trust him.

I guess his plan turned out to be cut and run. Anyway, he's not using it now, so it's available if Bush wants it.

11. the plan for afghanistan....
well I must admit I have no idea....perhaps its handy having a decent entry point to Iran.

the plan for Iraq is to crush the peoples will and take the oil, duh...

that's why we are never leaving.

the plan for Iran is much like the plan for Iraq. Go in destroy infrastructure, take oil.

make corporations money.

7. The plan is obvious
keep filling Defense contractors pockets and looting our treasury. Repeal the 22nd amendment and end all social programs, except those that benefit large corporations. 9/11 was more than a new pearl harbor. It has been used to benefit more than just PNAC.

12. I believe you are absolutely correct on that....
...when asked by democratic senators last week in the armed forces committee, what is the possibility of a TET-like coordinated massive insurgency attack on U.S. forces in Iraq, Boothe Generals Abizaid and Meyers said "no way Jose"!

I interpreted as meaning, "Holy shit, we would not be prepared for anything like that senator. After all, this is Iraq, not god damn Vietnam! There is no chance of that ever happening."

Man, these guys are totally out to lunch.

13. I missed that...
I think their vehement denial indicates they are fully aware it will happen. They just don't know when. They are in the business of denying reality so they can't admit it publicly. I really don't know how they sleep at night knowing how they have compromised our soldiers.

14. State Department Won't Release Iraq Insurgency Data
The Bush Administration wants people to believe the situation in Iraq is getting better, but statistics say otherwise.

Did you realize that insurgency attacks rose by 900% last year? Amazingly, the State Department has refused to release this data, breaking a long-standing tradition. Nice to know that Condi favors politics over the truth.
