Cheney: Bush May Forgo Private Accounts
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 08:35 PM by deadparrot
WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney left open the possibility Thursday that President Bush would sign a bill to overhaul Social Security without his embattled proposal for personal accounts financed from payroll taxes.

"I wouldn't say that," Cheney said, when asked if Bush would sign a bill that lacked the personal accounts. "I don't know. It would depend on what's in (it)."

Cheney, in a CNN interview, said Bush believes deeply in personal accounts and feels they should be part of any bill. Democrats are demanding that Bush drop what they call private accounts and are virtually united in their opposition.

Some Republicans are nervous about tackling the issue, as well, fearing the political repercussions of making such fundamental changes in a program that benefits 52 million Americans. Public opinion polls have shown tepid support at best for the accounts.

5. attack of the anal-issuing, aerial apes
In other words, "when monkeys fly out of my butt!" Bush can't set a precident of compromise or acknowledging reality this late in the game; D.C. will eat him alive. He may be a brain-damaged carpetbagger from crawford, but even he's not that dumb. If monkey boy backs down on anything at this point, it's like throwing chum into shark-infested waters, and he knows it. His duck is all ready lame; if he caves, I predict savage evisceration. Viz, he knows he can't cave. Smoke and mirrors.
