Wonder if the Bushies didn't want anything raining on their "Iraq Reconstruction" roll out yesterday. Can't think of any other reason.

the media has always announced military deaths in Iraq on the day that they happned. This is the first time that the announcement has been delayed until the following day. That must mean that someone in the administration withheld the information from the media... for some reason or other.

I happen to think it was so that their Condoleeza-guided, White House instigated, Iraqi Reconstruction scam could be rolled out in a "pristine" environment. Wouldn't want any nasty news spoiling that little marketing strategy. :grr: is right!

8. I was just getting ready to post on this

Besides three more dead, there were helicopter crashes and wounded. I don't know the cause of the crashes, but, I get the feeling that they wouldn't give the real reason anyway, either the equipment is wearing out, or those shoulder fired missiles are finding the mark.

So now, it's 323 dead. The news today will be all California, so, we won't be hearing about what's going on. The new spin now is look at all the positive things that's happening in Iraq, don't mind those dead bodies over there.

9. CNN showed the hosp in Germany

Aaron Brown's show had a long piece on casualties and the extensive injuries being suffered- more now than before major conflict was declared ended. -greater in number and worse in nature. Some Docs and nurses were interviewed and some parents. Photos of awful injuries. -Very moving piece and the first one I've seen in a regular news slot.

11. I saw that Aaron Brown piece - said over 6600 injured and sick

have been through Germany on way to US. Nurse said some days they only get a one, two or three on a plane, other days it may be 40. A lot of the injuries are horrific, amputations and open and closed head injuries. And yes they did say it had gotten more horrific since the end of "major hostilities" was declared by flyboy.

13. The German guards at Landstuhl told me two weeks ago....

on average 3 helicopters a day (which can carry approx. 7 injured, which is not to say the helicopters are full when they come in), the ambulances and buses carrying in the lesser injured all day long.

Here's the most recent piece Stars and Stripes has published on this issue, written in July. I've been waiting for the writer to update, which is why I wish I'd seen Aaron Brown's coverage.

Considering all the wounded, you'd think Stripes would cover that story better, but the paper is put together in DC, and everyday the editors paste together a sugar-coated version of military life, ignoring the growing problems and concerns.

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Oct. 7 — Three U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter were killed and three other service members were wounded in a pair of roadside bombings in central Iraq, the U.S. military said Tuesday.

THEY WERE THE first reported deaths by hostile fire of American soldiers in Iraq since Friday.

In the first attack, one soldier attached to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment was killed and another wounded in a bombing about 9:50 p.m. Monday just west of the Iraqi capital, the U.S. Central Command said in a statement.

About an hour later, another roadside bombing killed two soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division and their Iraqi translator, the military said. Two other soldiers were injured in the bombing, which took place in al-Haswah about 25 miles south of Baghdad.

BAGHDAD - US soldiers in about 20 Humvees with two helicopters hovering low overhead confronted about 600 demonstrators Tuesday at a Shiite Muslim mosque in southwest Baghdad, with protesters claiming the Americans had illegally detained their Imam.

Sheikh Mohammed Al Sudani said mosque preacher Moayed Al Karzraji was arrested Monday as he lead a12 -man delegation to negotiate with the Americans at 2 p.m. in the municipal council building. Al Sudani said the group was briefing detained and handcuffed by soldiers. Everyone in the group was released, he said, but the Imam who was taken to an unknown location.

Al Sudani accused the Americans of putting hand grenades in the mosque on Monday as a pretext for arresting the Imam and sealing the building Tuesday.

Protesters were shouting “America equals Saddam” and “Today we are raising banners tomorrow we will raise weapons.”
