Clark finally files paperwork for registration as Democrat

By Steve Miller
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Wesley Clark officially became a Democrat yesterday, nearly three weeks after announcing his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. The campaign of Mr. Clark, whose fealty was questioned by some party members, filed the candidate's signed affidavit at the Pulaski County, Ark., elections office to change his voter registration from unaffiliated to Democrat.

"We've had the papers on his desk, filled out and ready to go, for some time," campaign spokeswoman Kym Spell said yesterday. "But he has been busy, and he hadn't even been to town for some time until this weekend."

Last week it was discovered that Mr. Clark had declared no party affiliation in his December 2001 renewal for his voter registration, despite saying in a Sept. 27 interview that he had filed the paperwork to become a Democrat.

Mr. Clark told a political reporter for the Union Leader newspaper in Manchester, N.H., that he registered as a Democrat about two weeks before announcing for the presidency. He declared his candidacy on Sept. 17.

1. Welcome aboard General!
The more voices on our side, speaking truth about the BFEE, the better. I think Americans would love to see the Doctor and the General on the same ticket. The Simian would wet himself at the news of that merger.

2. Actually BEING a Democrat was not much of a priority.
To walk in and formally announce you want to be the DEMOCRATIC candidate for President of the United States, when you are not even registered as a Democrat -- just blows my mind.

Nice that he has finally taken care of that little detail.

4. Oh I dunno 'bout that
for most of my life I was apolitical. During the Clinton years I was so horrified at the behavior of the right I saw the light, as it were. I have always held socially liberal/fiscally conservative views and saw that the only place for me was the Democratic Party.

My views didn't change, just the realization of where I belonged (and where I didn't) occured. I worked very hard for my local party and raised lots of money. Dedicated worker bee. I only offically joined the party last December and got elected to the Executive Board a few months later (after being asked to accept being nominated). It seems my local party realizes my sincerity and greatly appreciates my efforts.

It's good to be home. I'm glad the General has joined us.

9. This thread is about Clark.
What is your point? If you're going to bash someone, it's best to at least provide some intelligent reasons why you don't like such and such. Otherwise, people will think you're merely here to disrupt the forum.

BTW, I'm proud to have someone like Clark in my party. :)
