Mystery Blood Clots Kill U.S. Troops
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Big News Network.com Tuesday 7th October, 2003

Several U.S. soldiers in the Iraqi war died from sudden illnesses, and a United Press International probe shows those were triggered by unexplained blood clots.

The Pentagon says blood clots caused two soldiers to collapse and die. At least eight other soldiers have also collapsed and died, from what the military has described as non-combat-related causes.

NBC reporter David Bloom also died of a blood clot in his lung, after collapsing near Baghdad.

The UPI investigation by reporter Mark Benjamin also points to another disturbing factor of soldiers becoming ill or dying from similar ailments in the United States. In some cases, the soldiers, their families and civilian doctors blame vaccines given to them by the military, particularly the anthrax or smallpox shots.

2. I'm not impressed without
a decent comparison group or denominator. It's really easy to count cases of a disease; it's really tough but really necessary to figure out the base denominator/population that is supporting those cases of disease so you can figure whether anything unusual is really popping up.

32. Sure is - but here's how you do it.....
you apply to their RFP (Request for Proposals) then you take their money to do the study and they give you the numbers. And then you find there's really nothing there at all........
(*What am I doing being so cynical at my age! (57, if you really wanted to know)*)

31. you're correct
Getting incidence of a disease among similar age group is a fundamental method of epidemiology.

Generally, studies wind up getting done months or years after-the-fact.

3. Just another coincidence

Nothing to do with vaccines, or DU, or radiation.

Fortunately, few Iraqis have access to health care, so we don't need to worry our beautiful minds about how many Iraqis may have developed blood clots recently.

Whatever the number, it is just a coincidence.

26. THERE in lies the question!
If the Iraqi people are NOT suffering from similar maladies,
then it would STRONGLY suggest that there is reason
to question the vaccines.
However, that will never happen.
National security and all.

10. there used to be a country western tune that said:
Mothers, do not let your babies grow up to be cowboys.} I say "Mothers, do not let your babies grow up to be soldiers" It is obvious, sadly, that soldiers today, are similar or in the same catagory as prostitutes. Once in the clutches of a government intent upon using you to get for themselves more money and more power, your babies will be sacrificed. Oh you will be programmed to think it was for the "freedom" of your country , but you will have been duped. Do not be so stupid as to sacrifice your babies to a man such as the despicable George Bush, who himself was AWOL, but is eager to use your babies for his own power and gain. Do not let this happen. Grow your babies up to understand that a military career today means a slavery to those who would use you to gain something for themselves. It is NOT a question of "defending freedoms" as you have been told-your babies will NOT be heroes in this type of attack for empire-it is usage of a pawn in the military to get power, money and other selfish gains using your babies.

11. It's from the long flights. My friend had this.
I think it's called pulmonary thrombosis. Blood clots form in the legs from the long flight, then they travel to the brain or heart. It's more common than people realize. Airlines eventually are going to have to deal with it and stop cramming people into tiny spaces where their legs are cramped.

13. It's called Deep Vein Thrombosis
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/main.jhtml?xml=/health/2003/07/29/hdvtfact.xml

Anyone who has followed the news over the past year will be aware of the risk to travellers posed by Deep Vein Thrombosis. The condition, which can prove fatal, occurs after blood clots form in constricted veins.

DVT is often linked to flying because of risk factors associated with the cabin environment. As well as remaining seated for long periods, passengers are subject to lowered air pressure and oxygen levels, which make their blood more likely to clot.

22. I resent that description
as someone who has had a DVT. They can be caused by any number of genetic factors as well as diet. The factors involved with clotting are numerous and complicated, and I would not be surprised to see a connection between the vacinations and several other risk factors.

16. Stephanie did your friend die from this?
Cause these Blood clots tend to kill

and David Bloom was in Iraq moving around

I think the theory might be that the smallpox vaccination plus anthrax vaccination makes you predisposed to these

But yes a Blood clot can be deep vein thrombosis

but it can be a pulmonary embolism if it travels up to your lung.

Did your friend survive this Stepahanie cause these soldiers didn't

21. He almost died.
Edited on Mon Oct-06-03 08:03 PM by Stephanie
He had terrible leg pains after an overseas flight. He began to feel weak. He was at the gym talking to a doctor friend who said Go to the Emergency Room right NOW. That's what saved him. He was just going to go visit his doctor. The ER took it VERY seriously and he was in the hospital for about a week under close watch.

He is very athletic and healthy and in his 40's. No history of this kind of thing. <edit> Not overweight, not sedentary, and definitely not LAZY.

The airlines are trying to cover-up how dangerous this is. One day there will be a class action suit.

15. Interesting artcle re blood clots and vaccines
"The government has reported 11 cases of unusual heart inflammation among military troops who got the smallpox vaccine. Three civilian deaths are also under investigation.

Furthermore, CBS is reporting one high-profile death that hasn't yet been counted - that of NBC Correspondent David Bloom. He died of an apparent blood clot in Iraq - several weeks after getting both the smallpox and anthrax vaccines. Researches have for years claimed there is a link between the smallpox vaccines and blood clots, though the link hasn't been widely accepted in the medical community."

25. maybe it is from having feet restrained for lengthy periods
in military vehicles, like Humvees. There was a study out last year that showed people who ride on airplanes frequently have a greater risk of stroke. Possible because they have to keep their feet in one place for prolonged periods. Clots arising in the lower body find their way to the lungs while ones further up result in cerebrovascular
events in the brain. The compartments in Humvees squeez the feet together. And I hear that all our boys do over there is ride around on patrol try not get shot.

29. I wonder if dehydration could have something...
...to do with it. Perhaps blood volume is diminished somewhat and thus more likely to clot. We know that soldiers aren't getting enough fluids. If I had a kid over there I would be telling him to take an aspirin every day as a precaution.
