The reflections of E. Howard Hunt (Watergate Burlar on Deep Throat)
Posted on Sun, Jun. 05, 2005

SOUTH FLORIDA, U.S.A. | WATERGATE

The reflections of E. Howard Hunt

THE WATERGATE CONSPIRATOR AND SELF-DESCRIBED 'WARRIOR,' NOW 86, SPEWS CONTEMPT FOR DEEP THROAT AND RECALLS HIS OWN ORDEAL WITH BITTERNESS AND PRIDE

BY NICHOLAS SPANGLER

nspangler@herald.com

E. Howard Hunt -- ex-CIA spymaster, federal convict and founder of the ''plumbers'' -- learned Deep Throat's identity through a non-secure channel this week, when he flipped on Fox News Channel.

''This skeletal figure sticks his head out the door -- not looking good,'' said Hunt, two days after a very wizened W. Mark Felt told the world he'd been the secret source who helped expose the Watergate conspiracy. In the ensuing scandal, President Richard Nixon was forced from office -- and Hunt, along with others, was sent to prison.
(snip)

``Nothing that Mr. Felt did was acceptable. It was traitorous of him to accept a paycheck from the federal government and do what he did. . . . Lots of people in Washington have access to secrets -- classified or not -- and that information is the basis of power. But only a person without quality, as I call Mr. Felt, would contact a major newspaper -- a newspaper -- to use this information. That's detestable.
(snip)

The counsel to the president asked him to work on the Watergate break-in. They were looking for evidence of illegal foreign contributions to the Democratic National Committee, possibly from Communist Vietnam and Cuba.

It was a freelance job -- Hunt won't say for how much -- and he recruited five men, some of them Miami Cubans he'd known for years, since the Bay of Pigs operation. They were called the plumbers because their job was to plug information ''leaks'' from the White House to its political enemies.
(snip/...)

1. Why in the hell are all these old criminals coming out of the woodwork?
Why do these liars, crooks, thieves, and basically traitors to the tenets this country was founded on think they should crawl out from the dark and inflict their worthless opinions on everyone.

And why in the hell is anyone giving them a forum to spew their ignorant crap from?

This just pisses me off.

Why do you think the first thing Boy George did was seal his daddy's Presidential papers! None of these bottom-dwellers can with stand scrutiny! They are HYOPCRITES! (in CAPS)

4. Hey, E.
YOU were the traitor.

YOU checked in at the Watergate that night under an assumed name with a burglary plan and G. Gordon Liddy.

YOU recruited Miami Cubans ("plumbers") to commit the burglary.

And YOUR guy Nixon sold you down the river.

Sucks to get caught and be you.

Guess we can add Hunt's name to the growing list of would-be Watergate revisionists who blame everyone but themselves for their criminal acts.

5. Irony is lost on this guy: the plumbers' "job was to plug information
information ''leaks'' from the White House" -- Their White House was leaking like a sieve, they apparently believed, yet it was detestable for Felt to use the only safe channel he could to report on Nixon's corruption. :eyes:

9. Yours is a point rarely made...
... Nixon's Department of Justice was, very likely, as corrupted as he was. How much trust would anyone have had in FBI investigations proceeding normally in that environment, especially after the so-called Saturday Night Massacre?

27. Remember, John Mitchell was Attorney General for Nixon before
becoming head of CREEP (committee to re elect the president). He and Nixon were partners in the same New York law firm.

He was convicted and served time in prison.

Yes, I'd say that Nixon's Department of Justice was, very likely, as corrupted as he was.

29. Just a refresher...
... Mitchell wasn't around, formally (although he was implicated in cover-ups well after exiting the office of Attorney General). Felt probably did not trust the FBI since acting director L. Patrick Gray had been taking instruction from the White House on investigations and evidence, and Richard Kleindienst, who replaced Mitchell as Attorney General, would eventually be prosecuted for perjury on Watergate issues.

25. 100% Felt would have been assassinated. 100%. Just like Kelly, Baxter,
Carnahan, Wellstone, Kennedy, Kennedy, King... and the other 10,000 whose names we won't know until we go to Heaven.

Why aren't any moral leaders saying this?

7. Oh, the irony.
You know, Howard, there would have been no need for a Deep Throat if the Nixon Administration had not been so fucking corrupt and paranoid.

He's got to be on the short list of probable JFK assassins.

14. I still can't believe they thought it'd be o.k. to spy on Democrats
How long IS it they've been using such dirty behavior to try to control everything in this country?

Has anyone ever made a list of all the crimes they've committed against Democrats, anyway? My God. I'll bet it's vast. If they spent as much time trying to actually IMPROVE out world as they do in trying to control it illegally, and destroy all non-Republicans, this would be a garden of Eden.

Why is it Democrats have NEVER been discovered doing anything filthy like their many ####-ups?

It's like Janeane Garofalo has said on "The Majority Report" with Sam Seder: it's a matter of personality which moves one to be a Democrat instead of a Republican. People who are capable of behavior like that simply become Republicans.

32. Yes, that one stood out
didn't it.

The scary, sad thing is these people still believe they did nothing wrong - which tells us a lot about the entrenched depth of the corruption in high places. It's just business as usual for the mobsters, and to play any sort of political game with the big boys, you have to have sold your soul to the devil. No wonder they're all such stauch xtians - all the best mafia dons were good catholic boyz.

I despair sometimes that the light of honesty will never prevail.

20. Pics of Howard Hunt as "Tramp" in Dealey Plaza 11/22/1963
Don't forget EHH's long battle against the photographic evidence that he was one of the 3 tramps found hiding in a box car behind the parking lot overlooking the grassy knoll at Dealey Plaza about an hour after JFK was killed.
First pic are all three tramps, photographed during Dealey Plaza arrest.
Second is Howard as tramp, from first photo.
Third is a formal Hunt pic from the same era, side by side with a close-up of Howard the "tramp" in the first and second photos.

The face structure is all wrong. The "tramp" has hair peeking from under his hat. Hunt's mouth is much wider. The "tramp's" face is longer.

Here's the tramp with another pic of EHH.
EHH was in the CIA, don't forget. He played a key role in training the Cuban mercenaries and controlling the Bay of Pigs fiasco (along with George H. W. Bush). He's clearly trying hard to make himself unrecognizable in the tramp pic. But if you say they don't look anything alike, well, hey, you must be right.

Oh, yeah. Hair. You mentioned hair. Yeah, that's a really important determining factor. No way that can change in a male over the years. No way it can be faked either. Unless, of course, this is the real world.

36. Ease up, Merlin
I wasn't attacking you personhood over this!

I merely expressed my opinion that those are not the same person. Even in the picture you now show, the facial features of the "tramp" are longer, and Hunt's mouth is wider. I don't think it would hold up to scrutiny through use of computerized comparison.

Again...just my freakin' opinion.

26. A Lutheran evangelist spoke on the radio today,
and said that the people involved in Watergate were berating and condemning Deep Throat, saying that if he had information, he should have taken it to the authorities.

The Lutheran evagelist asked how the chickens were supposed to report the fox in the henhouse when they would have had to report it to the fox himself.

This was a paid advertisement on WINS radio by the Lutheran evangelists. I was impressed.
