Study reports trend will swell ranks of uninsured

By Sarah Skidmore
STAFF WRITER

June 2, 2005

Rising health care costs are causing more companies to drop coverage for employees, a study has found.

Each 10 percent increase in premiums leads to roughly 1 million people nationwide losing their employer-provided insurance, according to the study released yesterday by researchers at the University of California Berkeley and Working Partnerships USA.

Premiums have increased 11 percent nationwide and 13 percent in California a year on average since 2000. If the trend continues, the study said, there will be an additional 1.2 million uninsured adults in California and an additional 6.2 million nationwide by 2010.

2. The system is falling apart
An increasing number of peole either are losing their insurance or are finding their insurance does them little good due to problems like huge deductibles.

Any chance we can convince any of these people that if they voted for Kerry they might not be having these problems. Kerry's heath care proposals might have been the last chance to save the system of employer-supported health care.

3. I don't think that "employer-supported" health care is
worth saving.. Not while the powers that be insist that health care be a profit generating enterprise.

Insurance companies should be taken OUT OF THE MIX, drug companies should be prohibited from advertising prescription drugs to the general public and Medicare should be extended to the whole population, with a drug bennie.

All we have to do is STOP GIVING AWAY THE STORE to the richest, most avaricious, greediest 1% of the population.
