Radio ads ask Republicans to get rid of majority leader
Drive targets six vulnerable House members and one on the ethics panel

WASHINGTON - MoveOn.org, a liberal political action group, has targeted seven vulnerable GOP House members by running radio ads in their districts urging them to remove Tom DeLay as majority leader because of alleged ethics violations.

The spots, which begin airing today and will run for a week, are an effort by the well-funded Democratic group to make DeLay and his ethical problems a defining issue in the 2006 elections.

"We are making a point that there will be a political price to pay for the Republican majority if they don't get rid of DeLay," said Tom Matzzie, the Washington director of the MoveOn PAC.

Matzzie said his group placed the $150,000 ad buy in six competitive congressional districts as well as in the district of Rep. Melissa Hart, R-Pa., who sits on the House Ethics Committee.

3. Group asks Goode to fire DeLay
Group asks Goode to fire DeLay

By John Yellig / Daily Progress staff writer
June 2, 2005

As part of a nationwide campaign, a small delegation from the Democratic group MoveOn.org delivered to Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr. on Wednesday a petition with 911 signatures calling for the end of Rep. Tom DeLay’s term as U.S. House majority leader.

MoveOn hopes to deliver 500,000 signatures to Republican representatives across the United States by the end of the week. The liberal group had collected 472,671 signatures by Wednesday afternoon, according to its Web site.

The petition states, “Republicans in Congress should fire Tom DeLay as Majority Leader because of repeated and flagrant ethical misconduct.”

Local activist Evan Scully, who was one of the 10 MoveOn members delivering the petition, dismissed DeLay’s recent assertions that he thought money that paid for trips to Scotland and South Korea came from a nonprofit group, not a lobbyist.

“A man in his position has to know better,” Scully said.

5. I'm Not Sure What Good This Will Do
Unless it's a warmup for removing the Criminal in Chief--get people in the habit of thinking it's time for a change. But I'd still want the bugman incarcerated.

7. Tom Delay MUST stay! Liberals will never learn
Giving the GOP the chance to get rid of Delay allows them to say, "see, we did the right thing." NO...let them KEEP him out front...he's polling poorly even with Republicans

8. Good point, but...
Well, you make a pretty good point, that having such an unethical frontman helps the Dems more than anything. But if they get rid of him, the counter-attack has to be immediate: why did it take so long? Why didn't they remove him from a position of leadership earlier? Why why why? I have a feeling that if you sat there and asked most Republicans "why" long enough, they'd realize they couldn't answer you. Or it'd all go back to the bible, one or the other.

9. I'd rather be asking them why in the middle of an election season
Same with Lott...at the time I wanted him to step down, but frankly it would have been better to LEAVE a racist at the helm of their party
