Wall Street Journal rebukes Republican Congress
http://rawstory.com/aexternal/wall_street_journal_rebukes_congress_528

The editorial (paid-restricted), which hammers Republicans for failing to produce anything of substance in the 2005 session of Congress, may be a troubling sign for Republicans, as the Journal's editorial page leans heavily to the right.

The Journal also recently turned on House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX), who has been mired in ethics scandals; while they noted that they believe DeLay has faced unfair criticism from Democrats, they said he was tainted with the odor of the Beltway.

"Americans have learned to expect little from Congress, and by that standard the 109th version controlled by Republicans has met expectations," the editorial begins. "On the other hand, anyone who hoped that the GOP would make something of its historic governing opportunity is bound to be disappointed so far."

"Five months in, Congress can point to the following achievements: a bankruptcy bill 10 years in the making, and a class-action reform watered down essentially to a jurisdictional change to federal from state courts," it continues. "That's about it. Among the 2004 campaign promises that aren't close to being fulfilled are making the Bush tax cuts permanent, reforming Social Security and expanding the market for private health care. Instead of any of those big three, Congress next seems poised to pass a subsidy-laden energy bill and a highway bill with some 4,000 earmarks for individual Members. For this we elected Republicans?"

Dang that liberal media.

Oh wait!

Are the true conservatives finally waking up??

1. No. They're just going to blame Congress instead of Bush.
Watch and see.

2. Look at what they're complaining about!
They're upset that Congress hasn't rammed through the greater part of the BushCorp big-business agenda.

What they want are:

(1) The bankruptcy bill (protection for corporate abusers);

(2) Class-action reform (protection for corporate abusers);

(3) Making the Bush tax cuts permanent (only for the ultra wealthy);

(4) "Reforming" Social Security (privatizing for Wall Street sharks);

(5) "Expanding the market" for private health care (profiting from the suffering of others and exterminating any idea of universal health care).

They got two of the five, both "watered down" versions that they don't like. These guys aren't "true conservatives" at all -- they're among the worst of the neocon corporate abusers. We should be celebrating that they're so unhappy!

4. The only good day for America is a day when Congress is not in session
Every bill put up for a vote in the last four and a half years took away more of our rights and earnings and gave the corporate elite more power.

6. Good point. Remember before the Enron scandal?
I recall reading editorials, news briefs about Enron and how "wonderful" they were, and the future was looking rosy, bright, good profits, bla bla bl.

There was even a hand-made drawing of Scott Sullivan, of all people, on the front page of the WSJ. (from World Con) the crook.

Such leaders. Such inspiring Captains of Industry. And this is their tabloid.

It'll be a cold day in hell before I read that rag again.

17. EXACTLY!! The WSJ is unhappy because they aren't being right-wing enough!
The WSJ editorial board is worse than FR. They are insane editorialists. The more unhappy they are, the better we as US citizens will be.

Even if someone similar Adolf Hitler ran for President as a republican, these people you call "conservatives" would still vote for him.

10. WTF !
They are arguing that BushCo and congress has not turned the country into the United Corporate States of America fast enough! What do you expect from "The Journal".

I would argue that they could have:

1. Provided/improved health care for citizens.
2. Raised the minimum wage,,,, by about $5 an hour.
3. Started impeachment hearings for *.
4. Passed education reform and funding.
5. Began REAL initiatives for alternative energy.
6. Began REAL social security reform.
7. Roll back the * tax cuts for the wealthy.
8. Figure out how to get us the heck out of Iraq and keep the country safe.

Much more but hey,,, thats what congress gets paid for.

And screw the Wall Street Journal.

11. Oops, the Wall Street oligarchs aren't getting their results
Congress needs to put an end to those silly class-action lawsuits, make the tax cuts permanent for the ruling elite, and steal the social security money and invest it in the stockmarket.

18. The Journal should be careful or Ann Coulter will be joking about ..
.. blowing up their building, John Cornyn will be explaining how understandable violent attacks on the editors would be, and Glenn Beck will be telling all his wacko listeners how much he would like to kill the WSJ publisher

21. But the best part is....
They put this out to express their dissatisfaction with congress and people read it. The power of the media, and we know all to well about the power they have, is helping us today. The last time congress received such low marks in the polls, Newt was swept into power back in '94. If it is James "Sponge Bob" Dobson, or the WSJ it does not matter, they are complaining and they are giving negative press to congress and the Republicans for not following their agenda. They are also breaking ranks with St. George on some issues and that may piss off a few more hard liners. What it is all building up to is the perfect storm if you will. The potential to take the House and Senate back from the Republicans in '06 is there. Letters to the Editor and the sowing of discontent are most effective now. If we wait till September of '06 it will be to late, we need to get going now and help the WSJ stay pissed off.
