Texas Exhibit Includes Saddam Mannequin (revisionist history?)
Edited on Fri May-27-05 03:15 PM by shawn703
When U.S. troops pulled Saddam Hussein from the hole in which he was hiding, the dictator was gaunt, dirty and disheveled, with a bushy beard, matted hair and a glazed-over look.

It was not Saddam's best look, but it is how he will be remembered by the soldiers who collared him.

A lifelike mannequin of a beaten-down Saddam anchors a new exhibit at the 4th Infantry Division Museum that recounts his capture in Iraq in December 2003.

The nighttime raid outside his Tikrit stronghold was conducted by the Fort Hood-based 4th Infantry's 1st Brigade Combat Team and Army special operations forces.

1. The Afgan, Abu G., Gitmo interrogation exhibit opens next week.
God, ain't propoganda great?

"Arthur Fonzo, an Air Force veteran visiting from Atlanta, got a little choked up while taking a long look at the mannequin when the exhibit opened Thursday.

"That is great, just terrific," he said. "It's realistic, it's history. It makes me feel that what our soldiers did was so impressive.""

2. "Ex-Marine Alleges Saddam Story was Fabricated "

A former U.S. Marine who participated in capturing ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein said the public version of his capture was fabricated.

Ex-Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh, of Lebanese descent, was quoted in the Saudi daily al-Medina Wednesday as saying Saddam was actually captured Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, and not the day after, as announced by the U.S. Army.

"I was among the 20-man unit, including eight of Arab descent, who searched for Saddam for three days in the area of Dour near Tikrit, and we found him in a modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced," Abou Rabeh said.

"We captured him after fierce resistance during which a Marine of Sudanese origin was killed," he said.

5. I remember that story.
I also know the casualty lists don't - or didn't at the time - show any Marine deaths that week.

So was the story wrong?

Or is the military not listing casualties who don't have anyone in the states who would miss them -- Sudanese Marine could have been an immigrant whose family is all still in Sudan. No one to raise a fuss at his not being listed, so don't list him and help keep the casualty rates down.

Which government lies do we believe?

3. The Capture of Saddam seems embarrassing next to:
Among first landings of D-Day
Capture of Cherbourg
Liberation of Paris
Held the line at the Battle of the Bulge
Crossing of the Rhine

Flowers really were thrown during the liberation of Paris.

Stratton said the museum rushed to finish the display so it would be ready for the Memorial Day weekend, a popular time for people to visit the Army base.

11. When they build life-like manequins - don't they need reference photos?
Could this be the reason Saddam had all those pictures taken of him in prison, including the ones in his underwear?

10. About that blog article...
"Further, I'm always dubious of the ability of large organizations to keep this type of thing secret for any length of time--more so in cases like this, where large sums of money are to be made."

This is one of the most common anti-"conspiracy theory" arguments. It is also one of the stupidest. Here he is suggesting that this event couldnt have happened, and thus the person exposing it is lying, because if the event had happened soemone would have exposed the truth!

Can anyone but me see the irony of using a "no one is saying it happened" excuse to explain away someone saying it happened?

Before this paragraph though, he uses another argument to suggest the whistleblower is lying, that in fact is evidence of why nothing has come out sooner - the whistleblower has left the military and in fact left the country, seemingly out of reach of anyone who would wish to silence him.

With the whistleblower being of Lebanese descent, and with the world recognised propensity of the US military to throw anyone of middle eastern descent into Guantanamo Bay prison without a lawyer or any other contact with the outside world, is it any wonder that guys like this would keep the secret until they felt absolutely safe?

Anti-"Conspiracy Theory" people often talk about the nonsense that a lot of these "theories" are made up from. It would be good if they could also recognise that they themselves do much the same thing when they formulate their defences.
