http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/GEO748190.htmBAGHDAD, May 27 (Reuters) - Badr al-Obeidi, a burly Iraqi father of five, says he agreed to detonate a remote-control car bomb that killed at least eight people at a Baghdad restaurant. But he has not explained why.
One of three suspects in the bombing detained by police, Obeidi recounted the attack to officers in a Baghdad police station as journalists invited by police looked on.
But his account provided few clues to how insurgent networks operate and recruit foot soldiers in Iraq, showing the problems facing Iraqi forces in penetrating the insurgency.
It was impossible to know whether his confession was even genuine -- many Iraqi detainees have complained of beatings and abuse and say false confessions were extracted under duress. Iraqi officials say security forces are under orders to respect human rights.
