Was it an actual defeat to the Right-Wing Radicals?
The News and the Radical right are upset about the agreement to stop the filibuster.

Do you think that this was an actual victory for the Democrats.

1. Yeah, well, they're idiots
It was a loss for the Democrats.

Look, three monstrous ideologues get onto the Senate floor for a vote, which will put them into Federal judicial robes. With a filibuster, this would never have happened.

Two others were jettisoned, but they'll be back. Or, worse will be nominated.

The "extraordinary circumstance" noted as an exception to invoke the filibuster is loose - and dangerous - language. Who, exactly, defines "extraordinary"?

The Democrats bent over yet again. What a drag.

13. As a lawyer, you know that this is legally non-binding & vague...
I agree with you...the Dems lost and yet they are giddy thinking they won...in reality, Frist looks like the ass he is, the Dems bent over instead of fighting and the GOP & Bush got what they wanted...they get their judges and they keep the nuclear option....

How again did we win?

And the real loss by the way - was the fact that had we lost the filibuster tommorrow, then it would have been the rallying cry to Americans, the wake up call, the sign that so many people, including those in disbelief about the Neocons that would have led to people demonstrating, protesting and making the GOPs' and Bush administrations life misery.

That was the biggest loss of the day...that can't be regained...

Drag? No, this is more than a drag...this is a disaster...

3. Yes.
It was as good an outcome as Democrats could rationally hope for under the circumstances.

5. Filibuster is still in place and there is going to be a vote for nominees.
The vote will probably go along party lines for the nominees but at least they will have the filibuster for supreme court nominees. They better take it to the wall if Bush nominates a whacko.

7. I'm VERY angry that Owens and Brown get promoted
That's going to ruin lives and have many repercussions for decades to come. The only thing we can do is elect a Democrat to appoint enough Supremes to overturn them when they go into Jesusland in their decisions.

get confirmed. Each of their cases will be scrutinized for their political bias. They should do the country a nonpartisan favor and withdraw their names.

11. at least Brown isn't on a fast track to the SC
Had we lost the ability to filibuster, Janice Rogers Brown could soon be sitting on the Supreme Court. If that doesn't give you chills, you're better than I.

The truth is that a compromise only works when both sides lose something. Since Reid offered them an up or down vote on 4 nominees last week -- and this agreement only give them 3 -- I don't see how we can seriously think we lost more.

8. IMO, the Neocons are laughing their azzes off. What did the Democrats
win? The right to fillibuster? Soon as they do that, the Repubs will say bad faith dealing and go nuclear again, but this time without the floorshow. And two total freaks will become appeals court judges. Horrible loss for the Dems.

10. The Dems can go nuclear again also & stop government
with the floorshow. Again, this is a republic and Bush has been trying to run it as a dictatorship silencing the voice of the very slight majority. The American people don't like that. Appeals court justices come and go and these two have already been totally marginalized. They should withdraw their names.

The big loss to the radicals came when the committee recommended Bush to pass through any names to both parties before actual nomination.
