Four teens shot dead outside home
Four teenagers were shot to death outside a home over the weekend, and a girl who lives next door told her mother she heard gunfire and a girl pleading for her life.

The motive for the shootings early Sunday was unknown, police said. A police statement said nothing about whether a weapon was found or the relationship of the victims, and officials did not return a call Monday seeking further detail.

The victims were identified as Dante Ward, 19, who lived at the home; Eddrick Clark, 18, of South Point, Ohio; Michael Dillon, 17, of Huntington; and Megan Poston, 16, of Barboursville.

Dillon and Poston were dates to the Huntington High School prom Saturday night, but it was unknown if they made it there. Dillon was a junior at the school, while Poston attend another high school.

The couple was supposed to be at a lock-in at the school after the dance, but their names were not on the registration sheet, Cabell County schools Superintendent William Smith said.

1. I'm shocked
Edited on Mon May-23-05 01:10 PM by Patiod
that this didn't happen in Philadelphia. Where last week, someone getting off a bus for work in the middle of the business district was shot in the head by a total stranger. We're competing with Camden for title of "Handgun Violence Capital of the US"

A woman was shot in the head, in FRONT OF HER YOUNG BOYS 'cause she drove in between a gang fight.

Nice, huh?

12. Sorry, we can match that
A GRANDMOTHER who witnessed a home invasion (probably to silence her grandson) was executed by the home invaders.

Go ahead - throw them out - we can beat anybody when it comes to wanton gun violence! Philadelphia - Fast Becoming the Murder Capitol of the US! Yay us!!

4. Remember
when this kind of senseless violence happened when Clinton was in office the RW nutjobs jumped all over it as a sign of the "moral decay" that was afflicting the country due to the "rot at the top".

Well now that the "moral majority" RW controls everything...silence.

Another shining example of the Hypocritic States of Amnesia.

6. I am confused.
I have lived outside of Detroit for most of my life and I have never heard of the Huntinton or Camden neighborhoods. Are they East Side or West Side?

9. What's a "lock in"?
Is it similar to the thing they do on Grad Night at Disney World, where they lock the students in the park and they can't go home until morning? That results in sleepy kids decorating every park bench in the park...at least the ones who don't cause trouble and get thrown into Mod Thirteen or sent to detention in the school busses in the parking lot.

I can't imagine how I would handle dozens of sleepy teens inside a locked-down school. Did they all bring sleeping bags, or just try to make themselves comfortable on the linoleum?

Anyway, without knowing any specifics, it just sounds like these kids wound up on the wrong end of a gang hold-up. Of course, the fact that they were not "locked up" with the rest of the students is bound to increase the trend to turn school functions into mini-Auschwitz's for students. Another reason I'm glad I'm not a teenager.

11. Nah..if it means the same as 'back in the day'....We used to attend
them (lock-ins) in junior high....It was like a big sleepover at the local community center. Everyone brought sleeping bags and snacks, and after running around, and playing all night, the girls were "locked-in" one part of the building, and the boys another.
It was such fun....I'm actually surprised to hear that this is still going on; it probably won't be in that particular neighborhood anymore.
Jeebus,what a horrible thing.

10. What is a lock-in?
I'm guessing that it's when prom-goers are "locked in" a gym or banquet hall so they don't indulge in alcohol, drugs or sex, but that's just a guess.

And if that's the case, that's pretty pathetic, since teens who want to indulge, WILL indulge, no matter what.
