Ex-KKK leader's robes bring $6,000 at Michigan auction
Black satin robes owned by a Ku Klux Klan leader have brought $6,000 at an auction in a county seeking to overcome a reputation for racism.

Gary Gray, of Ole Gray Nash Auction House, was criticized for Sunday's sale as well as for an earlier sale of Klan paraphernalia. About half of the 100 seats were filled.

Livingston County, located between Detroit and Lansing, has struggled to overcome a reputation for racism, earned in part because of Robert Miles, a Klan grand dragon who once held rallies that included cross burnings. Miles died in 1992.

1. I have a 103 year old horribly racist St. Valentine's Day postcard.
I've got it framed, as a reminder of US racism against people of color, especially blacks.

This was a card sent to someone in love in 1902 through the US Postal Service with a stamp.

An original document.

7. They had a thing on NPR about the lynching postcards
They said people used to pose for photos beside the hanging corpses of their victims and send them as postcards through the mail.

I couldn't imagine anyone could do that, until I saw this...

9. The KKK just brings out the Freepers
I'd like to see the purchaser take these robes, make a video of chopping it into teeny tiny pieces and burning this worthless hunk of crap to the very ashes. Sell the video and recoup the investment from the auction.

13. Only post #2 was 'one of those'
The other 2 deleted posts were me and Oasis discussing post #2. I guess we used bad words (wooops).

Yeah, certain folks like to point out that Byrd was once in the klan.

12. The name of the Grand Dragon is the key here
Robert Miles - not only was he a KKK Grand Dragon and pastor of the Mountain Kirk of Jesus Christ, but he was also linked finanically with the infamous "Order" that robbed armored cars and assassinated liberal Denver talk-radio host Alan Berg.

Someone has to keep up with stuff like this...
