Pakistan to raise Koran desecration issue with visiting US official

ISLAMABAD (AFP) - Pakistan will raise the issue of alleged desecration of the Koran at Guantanamo Bay detention center when a senior US official arrives on Wednesday, the foreign office said.



"We will certainly raise this issue again when assistant secretary of state Christina Rocca visits Pakistan," foreign office spokesman Jalil Abass Jilani told reporters.

Rocca, Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia, will discuss "all important bilateral issues" with Pakistani officials during her three-day visit from May 25, he said.

Muslims around the world have demonstrated in recent days against alleged abuse of the Muslim holy book at the US detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
