Chirac rejects draft UN resolution for Iraq
"Rome — French President Jacques Chirac said Saturday he was disappointed by a new U.S.-drafted UN resolution on Iraq, which foresees a step-by-step transfer of authority to an interim postwar administration in Baghdad but sets no timetable for a handover of sovereignty.

The United States faces a tough task in passing its resolution, even after submitting a new version last week that it said addressed some concerns. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan made it clear he opposes the draft, which offers the United Nations only a marginal role in Iraq's political process.

Mr. Chirac said the new draft contained “little progress overall compared” with the previous resolution."

<snip>

"Washington, which is pushing for more international troops and money to help shoulder the burden of rebuilding Iraq, hopes that the resolution can be adopted ahead of an Oct. 23-24 Iraq donors meeting in Madrid."

OK - so Bush ignored the UN b4 the invasion - now he wants their "endorsement" and help -

I think the BFEE is gonna be real careful about going ahead without UN approval in the future

Maybe the International Community is gonna NOT cowtow to Bu$co's demands ?

( One can always hope - no?)

1. It is almost like they don't want any help.
They'll just suck us dry. Chaos here and abroad.

2. yep, they're just that stupid
they'd rather bankrupt the US and hold on to their unilateralist attitude than actually compromise.

More evidence that the Bush cabal is unfit to run the country.

3. AEI/PNAC/Neo-cons don't want help
They sincerely believe that bringing in the UN will only slow things down.

Personally, I don't think a UN-commanded force would fare any better than the US; they would still be seen as foreign occupiers.
