DA's speech (to Dems) prompts calls for him to resign (DeLay case)
The Texas GOP speaks out while lawyers consider bid to oust Earle in DeLay PAC case

The Texas Republican Party called Thursday for Travis County prosecutor Ronnie Earle to resign after it was revealed that he spoke at a Democratic fund-raiser about an ongoing criminal probe involving U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay and three associates.

"Ronnie Earle's unabashed partisanship in speaking at a Texas Values in Action Coalition (TEXVAC) fund-raiser proves Earle's motivations have nothing to do with truth or justice, and everything to do with electing Democrats and attempting to bring down the most effective House majority leader in modern history," said Tina Benkiser, chairwoman of the Texas Republican Party. "He is tainted and he should resign," she said.

Lawyers for three men charged with fund-raising abuses involving DeLay's political action committee, Texans for a Republican Majority, were also incensed by Earle's fund-raising efforts. Two of the attorneys said they are considering motions to have Earle taken off the case.

Attorney weighs options
"It raises the issue of whether Mr. Earle should be removed from the case, or the case dismissed outright," said Joe Turner, representing John Colyandro, who was executive director of TRMPAC. "We already have a motion to dismiss under consideration in the case, and we'll wait to see how that goes before making any decisions."

5. Tobin in NH wants his indictment tossed due to Dems on the Grand Jury
He's the GOP campaign official in the phone jamming case.

If this is the trend, Dems can't be slow off the block on this one. We will be relegated to second class citizenship.

And YES they are hypocrits. Cheney/Scalia -what about the Enron donations to our current AG?

6. BA-ha-ha-ha! SHOCKED to find that elected officials are at fundraisers!
Here we have the elected district attorney at a political fundraiser, and the criminal defendant says that the DA is *gasp* trying to put him in jail! NO! Brothers and Sisters, say it ain't so!

7. Wasn't the smartest thing to do.
Earle's investigation was the best hope we had for putting Delay where he belongs. This move, discussing and open investigation at a party fundraiser, was pretty stupid. He could have attended the fundraiser without making a speech on the investigation and I think everything would have been fine. Not sure now.

I'm really disappointed. Ronnie Earle is generally pretty sharp...

8. Quit acting like a wimpy liberal!
So friggin what, he gave a speech about Delay. The Repugs have done the same and worse. Remember Clinton's phony impeachment? Delay was making all kinds of fund-raising speeches at that time and he went on to vote (not only vote but force) the impeachment in the House.

Fight these friggin criminals and quit acting like we have to apologize for anything.

12. You 're probably right....
I have no problem with what was said, just that the chief investigator shouldn't have been saying it until it could be stated in past tense. It didn't help the ultimate goal of getting the Delay out of office Vs giving him a "bloody nose" at a democratic fund raiser.
It may be the "wimp" approach but I disagree with the justification of poor ethics based on their lack of them. "2 wrongs don't make a right" kind of thing.
I live in Texas and hate the bastard for what he has done down here and for spreading it across the nation. I hate Bush & administration even more for the same thing. I feel the same disgust you do over this asshole, so please forgive me if I have a lucid moment or two.

Give `em hell!

13. It's not about him (Earle) as a politician
it's about him as a prosecutor. There are rules about what he's supposed to discuss in public about current cases.

I agree, this was a stupid move. Why allow them the least opening?
