Montgomery Mother's Stand On Sex-Ed Begins at Home (no homo talk)
I didnt see this posted already, I apologize if someone had already posted this one.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/18/AR2005051802314.html

Michelle Turner, mother of four public school students in Montgomery County, said it is her job, her responsibility, her life's purpose to shield her sons and daughters from corrupting influences. And the world, in her view, is teeming with them.

....

"You don't pop out a baby and expect it to raise itself," she said. "I made the commitment to be their mom, and to be here to teach them things that my husband and I wanted them to learn, to teach them about the church, about God." And to teach them this: "God has given us the ability to procreate, to bring children into a family. . . . And as far as the homosexual issue goes, our bodies are not meant or created to be used in that way."

....

The board wants to foster discussions of homosexuality, portraying same-sex attraction as natural and involuntary for gay people, as something that is common and acceptable. But Turner and other opponents said science has not proved that homosexuality is genetic, that more likely it's a choice. They said that the curriculum ought to present their beliefs, as well, and that students should be taught that it is possible to avoid, or to get out of, the gay lifestyle.

Maybe she should just take HER children out of the program, instead of forcing HER view on everyone else and blocking this curriculum..

1. So it's all about procreation, then? Childless, sterile people
(like George Washington) not welcome. What a dumb b*tch.

3. Homosexuality may or may not be a "choice"
But being a narrow-minded, know-nothing bigot certainly is.

4. ah ha, but later on pg2 she admits it MIGHT NOT BE A CHOICE!
"She added, "I will admit there could be a possibility" that in rare instances, people are born homosexual -- such as a cousin of hers."

RARE instances... IE only those that are convient for you... like say, evidence for going to war! These people really piss me off. The fact that this one lives so close to me really makes it bad though.

5. In my family it's not a choice...
Don't blame my cousin. He's one of the rare ones. But everyone else out there is a sinner. :P

9. "Her cousin"???
How interesting. On the direct line? I can't help but feel that people who believe it's a choice are people who are desperately trying to keep to a choice because the temptation is ever before them.

6. "our bodies are not meant or created to be used in that way"
That phrase could apply to any number of things:

1) Flying in airplanes
2) Engaging in "extreme" sports or stunts
3) Wearing glasses
4) Having piercings or tattoos

and the naughty one:
5) ANY non-vaginal sex. Makes you wonder if she's ever given a BJ? SINNER!!!

Why, Lord, do you punish us by allowing your followers to believe this shit?

7. I posted part of this in another board...
....what shocked me most, sadly, was not the wish to avoid all talk of homosexuality, but the outrageous lengths to which this family will go to "protect" their children from ALL the "evils" of the world. Those poor kids!

8. Best thing that can happen to her ...
is that all of her children are Gay, and she has a chance to learn a bit from them.

Unfortunately, since she is going to fill their minds with nonsense about how bad it is to be gay. This has the unfortunate consequence of forcing them into the closet, and living a life of false shame.

If they are not gay, then they stand a good chance of becoming homophobic assholes.

No matter how you slice it up, her children are FUCKED.

Words from a former Homophobic Asshole, who as seen the light.

Cheers
Drifter

10. When will people realize
the Moral society of hide everything under the rug of 1950's 1960's is gone.

I feel like our country keeps trying to regress into a simpler time, but crime and violence, culture keeps marching forward. It's infuriating that we keep trying to step backwards vs trying to find a way to explain to these people that society marches forward not backwards. If you want such standards move to Utah and hide your kids in the hills.

I almost want to do a M.Night Shyamalan and stick them all on a reserved piece of land so they can live in a colonial village, that caters to their moral value they can leave rest of "insane liberals' alone and in peace.

It's my feeling You can't shield your children from everything, but you can explain your views on such things, and how "you" feel about it. Then you do what a good parent does, you allow your child to decide for themselves. Ask them what their ideas on subject matters is. If different then your own, accept them. Kids are your future, why would you want to bias them to hate that takes years to undo?

uses it as justification to condem gays.

13. Why does the MSM award such bigots with publicity?
People like this probably get backslapped and applauded by their bigoted friends and acquaintances for the airtime they brought to the issue for "taking a stand". :eyes:

15. I wonder how many times she's had sex
without the express intent of creating children?

If she is so concerned with other's sex lives, maybe she could answer that question first to prove how morally pure she is. :eyes:

Her kids are going to turn out to be polyamorous bisexual Pagans. With a lot of piercings.

Trust me on this...fundie parents smother their kids so badly that eventually they snap and can't take it anymore. They want to be free!

17. they don't want to be free
they only want to think for themselves, they should be allowed to! Even if it's different then our own. Educate in tolerance not in hate!

Your right Kids do snap under that sort of pressure, being confined to a set of ideals taht no longer speaks to the culture of TODAY's society

18. "...forcing HER view on everyone else..."
I don't get that, either. If she wants her kids to be ignorant and risk std's and pregnancy, fine. Her family will have to deal with that. But why are she and her group given the power to dictate what every child in the district is taught?

Sex ed at my sons' school is opt-out. Parents can go and see the materials, watch the videos, and talk to the teachers. If they don't want their child to participate, they sign a form and opt-out.
