Priest plans to admit guilt in child porn case
http://www.star-gazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050517/NEWS01/505170304/1001

ROCHESTER - A Catholic priest accused of transporting and possessing child pornography is expected to plead guilty this week, his attorney said Monday.

The Rev. Michael Volino, 41, who had been working in a church in the Rochester area prior to his arrest, is accused of possessing hundreds of images of child pornography on a computer. Volino is scheduled to plead guilty Wednesday in federal court in Rochester, according to his attorney, John Parrinello. snip

Volino, charged with interstate transport of child pornography and possession of child pornography, is now on administrative leave.

Volino had been a priest at St. John the Evangelist Church in Greece, a Rochester suburb, since 2002. He also worked in the church's school.

3. Two reasons
1. Pedophiles seek out positions where they will be around children. Pastor/Preist, teacher, daycare worker, scout leader, etc.

2. Pedophiles tend to come from a more sexualy repressed background, where all sex is seen as dirty or shamefull. Since this goes hand-in-hand with some interpretation of religious faith, they may be encouraged into the pulipt by family, or driven to it as a method to cleanse themselves of their "shame".

6. Add in there
The absolute authority of priest over their parishoners: If the priest is a direct link to God, how could anything he do be wrong?
