U.S. Senators Try to Head Off Showdown Over Judges
A group of Republicans and Democrats continued an effort to avert a U.S. Senate showdown over President George W. Bush's judicial nominees even as talks between party leaders broke down without an agreement.

Democrats led by Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson are offering to allow Senate votes on four of seven disputed nominees, said David DiMartino, a Nelson spokesman. Negotiators include Arizona Republican John McCain and Connecticut Democrat Joseph Lieberman.

The Democrats also offered not to join attempts to block votes on Bush's future appeals court nominees if six Republicans pledge to oppose their party's plan to change Senate rules, eliminating the minority party's power to block judicial appointments.

Whaaaaaaat?? Do they really think he's going to start nominating reasonable people??? That's just an invitation for him to find even scummier judges.

6. Dems shoiuld call Frist's bluff
I really think Frist is bluffing because no way he has the votes.

Chafee, snowe, mccain, collins, hagel, and spector are going to vote with harry reid on the nuclear option.

It is very obvious from hagel and spector's comments that they will vote with reid.

Collins has already made it to interest groups through her staffers that she is aginst frist's power grabbing.

Dems should offer no compromise. Dems will win the vote on the nuclear option and then bush will be a permanent lame duck. Harry Reid will be the de-facto president on judicial nominations for the appeals court and supreme court.

Bush will have to get reid's ok to nominate any judge. Reid will be the new president in washington.

10. Damn it!!! Stop caving in...
Force the damned issue and lets have a vote. Even if we lose, when we win back the Senate (it will happen sooner or later) we can all laugh at the whining freepers.
