Arrests Follow Uprising At O'burg School (Ogdensburg, NY)

http://wwnytv.net/72k/full-story.asp?uid=7486&area=home+page
Police arrested 11 people following a disturbance Monday night at Ivy Ridge Academy near Ogdensburg.

Meanwhile, state police and border patrol agents were making progress early Tuesday morning, finding many of the youths who fled during the disturbance.

Police said they originally were looking for 12 youths, but that number was reduced to four by 2:15 am.

Searchers believed the youths may be headed for Ogdensburg. Searchers used dogs and had a boat in the St. Lawrence River.

Meanwhile, Ivy Ridge's director told 7 News reporter John Friot that the disturbance appeared to be a coordinated, planned uprising.

I guess this is some kind of school for disturbed youths. I wasn't even aware that it existed. The article later states that the facility is under at least two investigations. Border Patrol is involved because Ogdensburg is on the St. Lawrence River so the kids could easily cross into Canada.

1. OK, this is just downright frightening...
I just looked up the website for this school. I don't know who these people are but the website is a disgrace:

http://www.care4teens.com/schools/ira.html

It is filled with incomplete sentences and misspellings. Yeah, I want these losers 'helping' my child.

2. Why the hell would you put a prison school near a national border?
Now they're gonna go to Canada, get the help they need, learn 16th century French and be hockey goons.

5. Or worse yet, one of them will be the new enforcer for the NY Rangers
and then they'll use the money they made in hockey to open resteraunts in which the specialities will be poutine and Canadian draft beer. It'll be on the same scale of Dresden.

3. Here's the story of one of the investigations - Elliot's on the case
http://isaccorp.org/ivyridge/ivy-ridge-academy.04.15.05.html

The Academy at Ivy Ridge's accreditation has been suspended in the wake of a state attorney general's office inquiry into the business practices of the institution that offers behavior modification for teenagers.

"We sent them a cease and desist letter," said David G. Steadman, executive director of the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. "It means they're not supposed to say they're accredited until their legal issues are solved."

Jason G. Finlinson, director of Ivy Ridge, said its accreditation was "under review" but he refused to go into detail.

"I'm not at liberty to discuss it," he said. "Just because."

<snip>
"Just because." Now there's an adult answer. Can you imagine if one of the prisoners, er, I mean students answered a question like that?

11. Fancy name or not, it's still a for-profit "Troubled Teen" facility...
"The Acadamy at Ivy Ridge"...
$200 a month "tution LOANS"?

They wanted to send my daughter to one of those places, based on a 10-minute "assessment" When she was angry about being pulled from class at school. They didn't press the matter once they found out how little my insurance was going to pay...

My Ex-wife was bankrupted by one of those "Teenager Alcohol/Drug Treatment Centers". Google an outfit named "Straight" for an eye-opener...

Surprised they didn't call in the National Guard..Oh, wait, they couldn't come, they're all in Iraq....
