U.S. probe sought of memo on Barr's contraceptive
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N12281069.htm

WASHINGTON, May 12 (Reuters) - Two U.S. Senate Democrats called for an investigation on Thursday into whether a memo from a Christian doctor influenced regulators' rejection of over-the-counter sales of a "morning-after" contraceptive.

Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Patty Murray of Washington said reports about the memo added to concerns that politics was trumping science in the government's review of Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s Plan B contraceptive. snip

Hager is a practicing obstetrician and gynecologist and a professor at the University of Kentucky. He has been open about his Christian beliefs as a spokesman for the Christian Medical Association. He also co-wrote a book that emphasizes the healing power of Jesus and prayer.

1. These issues about doctors and pharmacists using moral....
...values and beliefs as the basis for treating or withholding treatment of patients ought to be the basis for these people to loose their licenses to practice medicine.

So, what if a doctor decides that patients with depression are just now doing God's will and so that's why they are depresses, can they just not treat those patients who may be highly suicidal. Or can a small town pharmacist just not fill out a prescription, forcing an elderly person to drive 100 miles to a drug store?

Similarly, what about medical schools that teach this sort of thing, they should be barred from being accredited. This is how science slips back-wards. The Faux-Dr Frist is an excellent example of this kind of quackery, he had never had any patients that I'm aware of.

2. Memo from this delightful man?
http://www.thenation.com/docprint.mhtml?i=20050530&s=mcgarvey

The details of this guy's sex life with his ex-wife is pretty graphic, so I'll let the reader go get it.

Needless to say, you don't need contraception when you force buggery upon someone.

3. Ironic thing with Plan B
is that it is nothing more than double dosage birth control pills - progestin, "Mini Pill" Birth Control. Those of us who are older remember that our doctors used to tell us if we forgot to take the pill for one day to just double up on the number of pills you take. Plan B and taking 2 birth control pills in one day is the same thing.

5. Shooosh!
I don't want the Rethugs to find out about that, for my daughter's sake, who, hopefully, might need them in about 10 more years.

Oh, hopefully, we'll have Democrats in office way before then.

Just goofing around. LOL!

10. U.S. (Dem) probe sought of (Hager) memo on 'morning-after' pill
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two U.S. Senate Democrats called for an investigation on Thursday into whether a memo from a Christian doctor influenced regulators' rejection of over-the-counter sales of a "morning-after" contraceptive.

Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Patty Murray of Washington said reports about the memo added to concerns that politics was trumping science in the government's review of Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s Plan B contraceptive.

snip

The Nation magazine, which first reported the memo's existence, quoted Hager as saying last October that the memo was written from a scientific perspective, not a Christian one.

The Washington Post reported on Thursday that Hager gave reporters conflicting accounts about who asked for the memo, at one point saying the request was from an FDA staff member and another time saying it came from outside the agency.

"Due to confidentiality, I am not at liberty to say who encouraged that this opinion be written," Hager said in an e-mail to Reuters.

17. People reading this thread NEED TO READ that NATION ARTICLE
...cited in the referenced thread, to understand the true dimensions of this man's hypocrisy.

Anal rape of one's wife is not nice-guy behavior.

13. Hager is a practicing obstetrician and gynecologist...
and a sodomite. He should be stoned by all the fundies who so vehemently denounce other sinners. Its in Leviticus after all.

16. These people are so STUPID
Plan B is nothing more than DOUBLE DOSE Progestin Only BIRTH CONTROL PILL. Have your doctor write a BC prescription, take 2 or 3 in one day and you can get the same effects as Plan B.

To me this smacks of the first stage in banning of birth control pills. Remember, Griswald v. Ct., which was used in the Roe case, was about dispensing birth control. Bush puts his fundie judges on Supreme Court to overthrow Roe, the only way you can do that is to strike down Griswald, which means BIRTH CONTROL TOO.

Welcome to the Handmaiden's Tale.
