U.S. lawmakers seek Wal-Mart pay data
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Congressional Democrats said on Thursday they have asked Wal-Mart Stores Inc. for its wage data so they can examine claims of pay and promotion discrimination against women by the company.

In a letter sent on Thursday afternoon to Wal-Mart Chief Executive Officer Lee Scott, lawmakers said the company pays female hourly workers 40 cents less an hour than men and pays female managers nearly $5,000 less a year than their male counterparts.

Written by Connecticut Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro, the letter was signed by 50 of her colleagues.

The letter said women comprise 72 percent of the work force at the world's biggest retailer, but only fill one-third of its management positions.
...
"This is part of a public education campaign to familiarize a public that knows Wal-Mart the Retailer with the practices of Wal-Mart the Employer," DeLauro said.

2. Sex discrimination. Another huge reason to boycott Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart is also the largest corporate contributor to the republican party.

5. That Boycott is WORKING. The Business Press Will Never Admit it Though
Boycotts make them :scared:
They don't want to talk about them.
They say the whole sector is having another bad quarter,
but somehow Walmart is having a badder quarter than the others,
and Costco is doing just fine.

3. This is GREAT news.
I really think the GOP mindset that they and their corporate allies could get away with anything made them all more vulnerable.

Let's go get those Bush bastards. And their robber baron pals, too.

4. They'll put a barricade on the dirt road to the new airport
that was built just for them (but not with their money, ours) so that they can't hand over the records.....oh, that's right, there's the Internet now. Do you think they'd trust to send it over Wal-Mart's server?
