Bolton's chances brighten as vote nears

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Undersecretary of State John R. Bolton's chances of winning Senate approval to be U.N. ambassador appeared to brighten as Republican fence-sitters drifted in his direction.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee scheduled a daylong session Thursday to culminate in a vote while Democrats scrutinized last-minute documents from the State Department to bolster their claims that Bolton is unfit for the diplomatic post.

The committee's final action -- to vote on whether to approve the nomination and send it to the full Senate for a confirmation vote -- would amount to a dramatic test of President Bush's ability to muster support for an embattled nominee and of the limits senators place on their own constitutional authority to "advise and consent" to his selection.

The Democrats' chances rested on converting Republicans, who hold a 10-8 edge in the committee and a 55-45 majority in the Senate itself.

3. It's come down to this
We had a pretty good idea he would win approval from the Republicans; now we have to pray like hell that very few, if any, Democrats vote him in.

When (if) he comes out of committee, he still has to be voted on by the full Senate. Call, write and e-mail your Senators and tell them to vot against Bolton!

9. today's chgo trib, front page, below the fold-
How much bossiness is too much?
Bolton's behavior puts issue on federal agenda

flanked by pics of steinbrenner, eisner, trump, and helmsley. apparently the irony of the one woman being the only who went to jail for her misdeeds is lost on the boneheads at the trib. or maybe that was their point.
when are we going to be civilized enough to see these kinds of clear examples undiagnosed mental illness for what they are?

10. Yeah, those people weren't my problem.
Some private sector dude wants to be an asshole, not my problem

But when Bolton becomes the WH and right wing bullyboy, sent to shape intel and eliminate those with a grasp of reality, my problem.
