Reports of anti-Muslim incidents in Florida -- including violence, vandalism, religious slurs, and governmental discrimination -- jumped 18 percent in a year, according to a study issued Wednesday by the state branch of an Islamic advocacy organization.

Of the total, 56 cases were from South Florida, said Altaf Ali, state CAIR director. Among them:

A middle school student in Boynton Beach was beaten with a belt by other students who shouted "Osama" at her. The girl also said her traditional headscarf had been pulled off on several occasions.

Vandals scrawled profanity and drew a swastika on a sign in front of the Islamic School of Miami.

A patron at a restaurant in Pembroke Pines called a Muslim man and his family "terrorists." When the Muslim complained, the manager told him to leave.
