Minutemen plan Texas patrols
Border group says concerns over drugs and violence won't stop them
By EDWARD HEGSTROM
News Services

After spending a month engaged in a citizen patrol along the Arizona border, the Minutemen are finalizing plans to come to Texas.

Chris Simcox, the leader of the controversial Arizona group that is attempting to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants from Mexico, says he is considering October for the beginning of patrols along the Rio Grande in South Texas. Other patrols are being considered for New Mexico and California.

But Simcox says there are serious logistical problems for patrols in Texas. Most of the land along the Texas border is privately owned, and some of it is urbanized, unlike the open land the group monitored in Arizona.

And the same reports of drug violence that have scared some tourists away from the South Texas region have become a concern for the Minutemen.

"The Texas border is pretty dangerous right now," Simcox said. That won't scare the Arizona-based citizen patrols away, he said, but it does mean they will be more careful in planning their operations, which might even include efforts to disrupt the flow of drugs.

1. These morons have NO IDEA how dangerous our border is...
so, I say - "come on down!" }(

I laughed out loud when I read they might try to "disrupt the flow of drugs". They have not the first clue about the Mexican drug lords that run the other side of our Texas-Mexican border. These guys think NOTHING of brutally killing US BORDER AGENTS w/out reprisal - I can only imagine what they would do with these jokers.

Talk about hubris.

4. What are they crazy?
Oh... yes, they are.

I read last month that in Nuevo Laredo alone more than 30 Americans have been kidnapped or murdered in the past eight months. That number didn't include any border patrol or police either, it's just the tally of the locals and tourist that got hit.

The drug cartel down here is not something to be taken lightly by a bunch of blow hards. They will chew up these men and spit out their bones. Sheeze, what the hell are they thinking?

2. David Neiwert
has warned of this militia becoming a generic "vigilante militia" as yet another step in a creeping proto-fascism. When the government decides to officially endorse this militia or deputize them, then folks, we'll basically be there and you can start up yor local resistance cell.

3. "Most of the land along the Texas border is privately owned."
I'd wondered about this--apparently they were patrolling on public land in Arizona.

Most landowners along the Texas Border have been here for some time & know how to deal with matters. They won't take kindly to fools with guns traipsing across their property. They have their own guns.

5. Let The Morans Try, Here is what they are up against:
April 11, 2005

NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico (AP) - Unidentified gunmen ambushed a state police convoy in the border city of Nuevo Laredo on Sunday, wounding three officers and two civilians

The assailants, who a witness said were dressed in black, fired hundreds of rounds from automatic weapons and police later found a bazooka nearby, though it was unclear whether that weapon had been used.

The shootout occurred at a major intersection near a busy shopping mall about midday
