Suspect in officer's killing may have tried to slip onto LAX
Police believe officer was killed while trying to keep William Sadowski off airport property. Sources say he wanted to crash a car into an airplane.

Police believe the man charged with killing a popular LAX patrol officer 10 days ago was trying to get onto airport property when the officer detained him on Lincoln Boulevard north of the airfield, LAPD Deputy Chief Michael Moore said Monday.

The suspect, William Sadowski, allegedly struggled away from officer Tommy Scott, sped off in his squad car and, with Scott clinging to the door, crashed into a fire hydrant.

"We believe officer Scott likely interrupted Sadowski," Moore said in response to questions from the Daily Breeze. "Our investigation leads us to believe he was trying to gain access to airport property."

Two other sources, however, said police believe Sadowski wanted to drive a car into an airplane. Authorities have said that Sadowski, 46, was acting alone and was not part of any terrorist plot.
